Does a Steam Inhaler help?

Post by REIUSA » Sat Apr 05, 2008 8:46 am

Does a Steam Inhaler help moisturize your sinuses to counteract the drying effect of a CPAP? I have been using a non-heated humidifier and will go to a heated one soon so that may help a lot but I was curious if the steam will help much with preventing dryness.

It won't help when you're running the machine - you don't want steam sucked into the mechanical part.

What may also help in getting humiditiy to you sinuses is a twice daily sinus rinse - http://www.unimedprod.com/ available all over the USA so you can drop by and get one ASAP.

A heated humidifier doesn't produce steam, it just warms the water which does produce warmer, more humidified air. For me, the heated humidifier did help counteract dryness in my mouth/throat, but the heat seemed to cause me to have more sinus swelling/congestion, so I switched to a passive humidifier. I use the Oasis passover humidifier--I think it provides the greatest water surface area to produce more humidity than others. And, I also use my integrated humidifier along with it (I use both together), with the heat set on 1. Good luck!

The steam inhaler I was thinking about is the one on this site...

The V1200. You use it once or twice a day for 10-15 minutes or so.
