Encore Pro direct connection?

Post by 6PtStar » Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:01 pm

Every morning when I download my smart card it opens a connection that gives me an option to download from the smart card reader or from a direct device connection. I always wonder how to use a direct device connrction. I have looked at my machine and there is no plug to attach a direct cable. Did Respronics ever make a machine that could be downloaded from cable directly to a computer. As much trouble as some people have with the card reader thought maybe ther was a different way. Anyone know if there is a plug that goes into the hole where the smartcard goes that woul allow a direct connection?

Sorry, I guess I am just bored and there is NOTHING WORTH WATCHING ON THE TUBE!

I'm still waiting for a PAP with Wifi and/or Ethernet built in. Seems like a logical feature to me.

Jerry,

It's called the "SleepLink Modem System" P/N 1008002.
It looks like the top of one of the Pre-M ("Tank") machines. It also integrated with a pulse-oximetry system and was used for oximetry and compliance monitoring.

If you go into the "Help" files of the Encore Pro (raw file in the directory C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro is EncorePro.chm) and look for "SleepLink", there may be a picture of it......there is in mine.

I also have a .jpg file of it and the description, but it's apparently been removed from Respironics' site as I couldn't find it again.

EDIT: I did some further searching and found a file with the picture.
It's at the bottom of this .pdf file.

Thanks Den. It sounds expensive. I may have to stick with the card reader. At least now I know and will quit wondering.

Good job Den - now I wonder if this apparatus is still available? Doesn't seem like it was too popular - likely had a monthly fee with it?

My Remstar Choice LS has an ethernet port on it. It is under the word Remstar if you open up the top. Now what kind of data can be sent I have no idea. This machine is set via manometer. It does have a remote starter (but I don't have one), it doesn't record hours (at least the one I have doesn't), and it sure doesn't even get close into finding AHI.

But if there was ever a remstar that had an ethernet port, well I GOT IT !!!

I think I read somewhere that the direct connect was for phone line hookup (.... yes, I get it, modem!) so that sleep labs could (theoretically) download your card over the phone!

Probably serial

Post by sburke91 » Wed Jan 23, 2008 6:46 pm

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that that's actually a serial port or other configuration/diagnostic interface. Lots of things besides Ethernet use RJ-45 connectors because they're cheap.

Aren't those 'things' covered by communication standards?

The spec of an interface can be, but particular connectors, esepcially the most common ones, can be used for different specs.
