I just installed EncoreViewer 1.0 on my Windows XP machine, and I installed the smart card reader drivers from the EncoreViewer CD. When I connect the smart card reader, the hardware install wizard cannot find the drivers. Any help will be most appreciated.
Smart Card Reader Install problems
Same issue ...
I had EXACTLY the same problem with EXACTLY the same stuff about an hour ago. Two things solved it:
(1) Make sure you're logged in as an "Administrator" on your Windows machine. I have a protected "Family" login with limited rights and the installation didn't complete under that user.
(2) Make sure you've finished the EncoreViewer installation completely WITHOUT having the card-reader plugged in, and then ... LEAVING THE CD in the drive ... plug the card-reader into a working USB Port. You can have the SmartCard in, or not, it doesn't matter. At this point, the Windows Wizard will pop up showing the new SmartCard Hardware, and ask you if you want to Auto-Install. Say "Continue" or "Yes" (can't remember which) ... and the driver will auto-download from the EncoreViewer CD.
My three mistakes were:
(1) Not logged in with "Administrator" rights
(2) Plugging the card-reader in before the EncoreViewer software install
(3) Pulling out the installation CD "after" software installation but "before" plugging in the reader.
Install software
Plug in reader
Run the wizard
... and you should be fine.
Let me know if it works. I'll send you my Tech Support Bill.

For some unknown reason when I installed mine the "Smart Card Service" did not get turned on and set to automatic.
I had to do the following:
Right click on My Computer, then left click on Manage/Services and Applications/Services/ Smart Card/Start the service.
Then right click on Smart Card, left click on Properties, left click on Startup type "Automatic"

Thank you to both of you for your timely responses. Turns out that I had a major system software problem that prohibited Windows XP from reading anything plugged into my USB ports. I had to do a complete reinstall of the operating system. Once that was done, the SmartCard reader installed without any problem.
Once again, I am grateful that you two took the time to help me out.
