Stuffy Nose Fix

I recently switched to FF Masks, and even Picked up a Hybrid. I like the fact that they eleiminate mouth leak. When I have a stuffy nose I almost exclusively mouth breath. I wake up with a dry mouth. I tried something this past weekend and it worked pretrty well. Probably been done before ..... Anyway I took the internal filter out of my machine, left the sponge layer in. I bought some of those refills for the plug in menthol pads. I broke one into four peices and put it on a saucer near the intake. It may take a little distance adjustment deepending on how sensative you are to te menthol. I cover it with a dixie cup when not in use and actually got a whole weekends worth of use from the pad. (3 Days) Just thought I'd share.

This is a great idea, thanks for sharing. Although, I would not remove the ultra fine filter, I have severe allergies and need that. I think the menthol will go through it just fine. Like the PurSleep does. I will try this.(Desperately need it tonight, and dont have it !)

I had trouble with congestion when I started using FF mask - work up in a panic one night when I couldn't breathe. So I started using a netipot (see http://www.netipot.org). I do that about an hour before bedtime and haven't had a problem since then. Other people use the NeilMed nasal rinse system - I'm plannng on trying that one soon.

I have recently started Pulsatile Irrigation. It is suppose to have the benefits of nasal irrigation plus improve cilia function. It basically adds a pulsing effect to the nasal irrigation to stimulate cilia action.

It seems to help me breath through my nose. I use it twice a day. If you do try this I found it best to irrigate well before bedtime.

I found the book "The Sinus Cure" by Dr. Murray Grossan, informative so decided to buy the gadget. (about $100). I don't know if the additional value of the pulsing feature is worth the additional costs.

I have been using the NeilMed Sinus Rinse system for quite awhile now (the squirt bottle). It is a lot less messy and easier to use than the netipot. My problem is that my allergies are so bad, and my nose is stopped up so so bad almost 24/7. Nasal passage has to be clear for the rinse to do anything. The rinse will not open them up for me. But I love it on a good day!

Living in Tennessee.... no wonder. I'm beginning to wonder if anyone in TN isn't suffering from allergies (well.... it really isn't anything to laugh at ) It's just all the allergens that are in the air. Too many damn plants.... I guess.

You are so right! My husband is from Wis. He says he NEVER had sinus or allergys until he moved to Tenn. Mine are worse than have ever been in my life!
