Carry your own bag!

Post by BadBreath » Thu Sep 20, 2007 7:10 pm

I was picking up a couple at a local hotel for a wine tour and as usual I was early. While waiting in the parking lot two white stretch limos back in, of course blocking me in.

One of these goon drivers (I've driven limos on wine tours in the past and it still amazes me how schlubby some of these drivers can be) was trying to fit all of the luggage for his group by putting some in the trunk and some in the front seat. A woman passenger hands him two carry-on bags and I notice one is a Respironics case. I'm wondering if she is the one on cpap when the driver decides he is going to move that bag from the front seat to the trunk instead, and promptly proceeds to drop it on the ground. The woman, who is now a few feet away cries out, "Oh, my God, he dropped it!" Her husband, who is standing near the rear of the limo says, "Hey, that's fragile" and I chime in, "And it's a medical device, so it's important." YOU MORON ). The man says, "If I can't sleep tonight, it's your fault!" A friend says, "What was that?" and the wife explains, "It's his Cpap."

So of course I ask him how long he has been on Cpap. "Five years," he says "and it has changed my life." His boss just started on Cpap and it has already changed his life as well - energy and attitude. He also tells me travel with the machine is not a problem, you just have to pull it out of the case for inspection.

"Yeah", I say, "and maybe always carry it yourself."

Good advice. No one has ever carried my cpap other than me, and no one will unless I'm unable to do so.....even if I win the lottery!

Put a sign on it "You Break It, You Own it". If they drop it, charge DME prices. Then buy a new, top of the line one on cpap.com. You'll have enough left over for the software and some new masks. .

Seriously, I wouldn't let anyone carry mine.

Great advice BB,

I've already traveled a couple of times with mine, and you'd better believe that nobody carried it but me.

I went on vacation the whole around Labor Day Weekend. It was hard having the security people handling my mahcine. They pulled it out to run a cotton cirlce over it, and then they tested the circle for explosives. Then they ran the machine through the X-ray again. I was nervous. I would like to hope they would pay for it if they break it. Other than that, I carried it on the plane with me.

Oh I'm paranoid about anyone handling any of my electronics. So far I haven't actually travelled with it but if and when I do I will certainly carry it myself. What an idiot to drop it like that!
