Hello everyone,
Right before I fall asleep, a minor nasal passage obstruction triggers the "lack of air" anxiety (of not surfacing in time). Whenever it starts happening--if I were to rise from bed and start walking (and deliberately thinking of something else)...the psychological pressure slowly dissipates within a minute, two, or three...without re-occurrence when deliberately thinking of something else (immediately returning to bed to fall asleep).
I've been having this "sleep disorder" for the past 1 1/2 years...it happens about once or twice per month. When it happens it's very scary! Can anyone tell me the name of my "sleep disorder"? What can I do to get rid of this sleep disorder?
Thank you in advance!
Sleep disorder
I disagree. It sounds very much like a sleep disorder to me. I read this as insomnia. It doesn't matter what is causing it--whether physical, psychological, chemical, or environmental--if you're having serious trouble getting to sleep, it can be called insomnia.

Or perhaps it is that you are experiencing an apnea and this triggers anxiety. You should get it diagnosed via a sleep doctor.

Put simply, this is the kind of thing to talk to your doctor about. Internet forums are notoriously bad at diagnosis. Go to a Lupus forum and tell them about your flu symptoms and they'll tell you you have Lupus. It's just human nature.
I experience sleep apnea, so when I read what you wrote, it sounds a lot like my throat closing up to me as I fall asleep, which was common. But, who knows if that's actually what you're experiencing?
Go in and talk to your GP. It's obviously bothering you, so in my mind it'd be worth the copay.

I'm a programmer Jim, not a doctor!
I have a feeling I'm going to get some disagreement
What he said. IMO, as great as online forums are for support and as knowledgeable as the folks here are, I wouldn't rely on them as a sole source of diagnosis. If possible, find a good doctor and be an advocate for your own health. Get a second opinion from another doctor if you aren't happy with the original doc. If you're comfortable with it, share what the doctor said with the good folks here.blarg wrote:Put simply, this is the kind of thing to talk to your doctor about. As far as copay is concerned, do you feel you can put a price on your health?
