Is 13 a high number for Cpap?

Post by Dave2you » Fri Jul 06, 2007 4:05 pm

Kind of wondering what people feel the average is.

I was 48 Apnea's and a pressure of 13 to Fix them. Since it
seems some people's pressure's are 18 and 20, maybe mine isn't as bad
as I thought.

if Pressure = Severity that iS.

Pressure = blockage right?

LoL I am Such a newbie. at this.

No, pressure does not equal severity.
I am one of those with a high pressure (21/18 BiPAP), I averaged 86 events per hour during my study.
However, my father also averaged 80+ events per hour, but his pressure is only 8.

I am also a 13 and I feel it is starting to get towards a "high" pressure where you have some issues with mask leaks and exhale. It is all up to the individual what is "high" to them.

I was at 30 events an hr, and my pressure is 11cm.

Just something to compare to.

The pressure has nothing to do with the severity. Someone with an AHI of 9 may need a pressure of 15 to keep the airway open, someone with an AHI of 80 may need a pressure of 8 to keep the airway open.

I have a pressure of 10 and have moderate OSA. My AHI was about 25. My problem is an underdeveloped lower jaw and a normal size tongue. I think it depends on what is causing your apneas.

My windpipe at the base of the toung is much smaller than normal. My 90% has been running around 12. Sleep doc set me up for 14/10.
I just want to go back to sleep!

In a PSG study I had a fairly low overall AHI of 7.8.

Just looking at REM, however (when apneas and hypopneas are more likely to happen) my REM AHI in the study was about 25.

A pressure of 9, or 10, or 11 works well for me most of the time. Usually keeps my AHI at 1.0 or below.
