Other changes in your body?

Post by Carsonsmom » Sat May 05, 2007 11:45 pm

Has anyone discovered any things that were happening to your bodies before you were diagnosed that are now changing since you have been on CPAP?

For years and years I had horrible night sweats and the doctors never knew why. On CPAP treatment, they have stopped. I now know it was from Sleep Apnea!

Of course the bags under my eyes are better now as well!

The brain works better! Don't have to force myself to concentrate on a task anymore, the connections in the brain are working better. It was like thoughts weren't connecting when I was exhausted. Now I can think straight again.

Even though I'm quite tired because I'm not sleeping long enough, I've noticed that my "brainpower" is more sustained throughout the day than earlier. I don't feel brain dead by the end of the day like I used to. Perhaps the tired feeling is more like "normal tired" would be for someone without S.A. if they didn't get enough sleep.

The other thing I'm noticing is that I'm more relaxed. I don't have to struggle to pay attention all the time. I'm also connecting with people better. I think that this is because I can "connect the dots" better, remembering the last thought instead of it being lost in the ozone.

After only a week on the equipment I think that this is a miracle! I'm hoping to get more sustained sleep and perhaps fewer arousals (I had a number of spontaneous arousals during my study).

After only two weeks, I can't say I've seen any IMPROVEMENT, mostly I feel sleep deprived, woozy, cranky, and stoned.

However... My persistent adult acne does seem less. I don't know if that's such a great trade off.

Still hoping for my miraculous recovery.

Cheers,
B.

Skin color better

Post by JohnMudie » Sun May 06, 2007 9:14 pm

People are saying my skin color is better and it may even vary depending on the quality of the treatment the night before.

I have noticed a decrease in daytime sleepiness. It's easier to wake up in the morning (but not much!). Wierdly the bags under my eyes have gotten WORSE - although that's probably because they're deflating! I looked in the mirror the other day and thought I was gaining weight but not so.

I can concentrate more and am able mostly to get theough the work day without falling asleep at my computer while typing. If I find myself nodding off I just take a short break outside.

The other change I've had is excessive flatulence! I thought I was being wierd but it seems as if that's a very real side effect of PAP. Oh well. I try to hide them as much as possible or pass them off as someone else's but hey, as my great grandmother, the midwife, used to say "there's more room on the outside" and sometimes I feel like my stomach is going to explode!

OK, I've been on the hose for five nights now.
I'm trying to keep track of the daily changes..
After the first night, My body and brain were "confused". Something happened, and I didn't know what to expect next.
After the second night, I truly had a good day. I worked eight hours, then drove 200 miles to visit family. Kinda odd driving that far without getting drowsy. I'm feeling very enthusiastic.
After the third and fourth nights, I'm feeling tired again, but not as bad as before XPAP. I know I'm moving in the right direction, but I'm going to need to keep it up for a while. I have a lot of catching up to do.
At this point I checked my average AHI for the first four nights. It was at 4.5. Not a bad starting place, but I'll try to get it lower.(was 58 before)
Now at five nights, 100% compliance so far. I can see improvement in the mirror. I don't look as exhausted as I used to. I still feel a bit tired. I wish my schedule would allow afternoon naps, I'm ready for more, I want to feel better.

Other changes? Sure. My "digestive" problems have lessened. I'm hoping they'll go away. Aerophagia? Not yet, and I _REALLY_ hope I don't, as I've had surgery that prevents burps from coming up.. and the alternative is not pleasant for my wife. I'm generally more cheeful, but I still need to work on Road rage. I expect that's not sleep related (I hope). I feel stronger, more alert, and a lot more enthusiastic. I hope to keep that up.
I hope to re-start my daily mile on the treadmill. I feel good enough now.
I look forward to restarting a few programming projects to keep my brain active. I like to push myself intellectually, but have been unable to do so for many months now.
I think there will be more changes coming, but that's all I can report right now. 5 nights on the machine, 100% compliance, and wanting more!

One thing not yet mentioned is the tendency for male PAP users to notice the rejuvenation effects of Senior Wood in the morning.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I hadn't noticed that I no longer wake up with leg cramps! Thanks for bringing up the topic and I'll be sure to mention it to my GP as we had been trying to figure out what was causing them. Cause and effect? But do seem to be related in timing.

Yep, a month into the therapy and sex drive seems to be improving... 40's are the new 20's in more ways now than before CPAP!

Also, I seem to not need as much junk food, and be better at knowing when I am full and should stop eating. In time, I am hoping that this (and the effect of more excercice, in the bedroom or on the treadmill...!) will translate into weight loss...

To be continued...

Yup.. I noticed that in the middle of the night.. while doing the titration.
Must have been the sudden recurrence of the ability to dream.?
That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

I wonder how that shows in the charts? Hmm, better that I don't know.
