New BiPap Machine

Post by Eyelet » Sat Apr 21, 2007 3:26 pm

My husband has been using a Respironics Tranquility BiPap for over 5 years. The machine finally gave out. Not wanting to go through a new sleep study, his doc agreed to write a script for a new BiPap. The poor experience we have had with regular DME has brought me here where we wish to buy a new machine. His settings are 14/9, and we are looking at the M Series BiPap Auto. Questions: Can we change between Auto and straight BiPap easily? Will the machine work before installing the software (he needs to get up and moving now as we has been without a machine for over a week now. He has not used a humidifier in the past, but we will order one for him now. He is normally very compliant and misses his machine terribly! Thanks for all your help.

Yes yes & yes

The machine can be run in different modes & is easy to switch from Auto to Bipap to AUTO Bipap modes.

The humidifier can also be turned on & off as required (I think most of us like it on )

The auto bibap can easily be set as a straight bipap.

The software is not needed to run the machine.

The software is used to see monitor the treatment.

Eyelet, the Guest (SelfSeeker) told you right.

The other poster was incorrect about there being a separate operating mode for "Auto."

The BiPAP Auto can be switched back and forth from BiPAP to Auto BiPAP mode, but cannot be used in just "Auto" mode. It does not have a mode called "Auto", and it cannot be used just as an autopap. It will always be a "bipap" in any mode.

The operating modes for the BiPAP Auto are:

BiPAP (bipap only, without bi-flex.)

BiPAP with Bi-Flex enabled (bipap only, with bi-flex enabled.)

Auto BiPAP (auto-titrating bipap, without bi-flex)

Auto BiPAP with Bi-Flex enabled (auto-titrating bipap with bi-flex enabled.)

You can set the inhale/exhale pressures the same to make it perform like a single pressure CPAP machine, but you cannot set it to operate as just an autopap.
