Feel Like I'm Starting Over....

Coming up on 17 years using a Respironics Bilevel ASV.

Tomorrow, my new RESMED ASV 11 arrives....

I haven't used software for years because Encore was such a PITA, and I was sleeping quite well. But I almost feel as if I ought to keep an eye on the new Resmed for a few weeks until I'm sure of the ways in which it may be different.

I'll need to go re-read Pugsy's thread on using Sleepyhead/?? but any suggestions?

Yeah use Oscar. SleepyHead probably wouldn't work with the AirCurve 11 models anyway. It hasn't been updated in a long long time.

SleepHQ lets us zoom in on flow data if we want or need to. It may or may not be something useful.

OSCAR is/was based on SleepyHead though so it will look familiar to you.

ResScan is still a major PITA to work with.

Why is it the manufacturer's software always appears to be a PITA since Respironics discontinued the patient version of Encore? I actually liked that, and was able to figure out how my machine needed to be set.

I remember when I first got my Beastie, and the Pain Management Doc who diagnosed me left it to the DME to set the machine. They set it at Epap = 10, MinIPAP = 10 and MaxIpap = 14. I ooked at a week's data, and knew I was fighting to breathe out against the 10. Got directions for setting it, and changed the EPAP to 6, and presto, almost no leaks and virtually perfect charts. So I went back to the doc and requested that she formally change my script.

When the newer machines came out, we changed it again to EPAP 6-8 and MinPS 4, Max PS 8, and again, everything was cool. VERY rare that my EPAP budges off 6.

But since I know the Resmeds and the Respironics machines are a little different in how they handle things, I just want to keep an eye on stuff.

Oh, blast, I need to get the proper manual, too. When I got my 950, the DME mis-set it to an EPAP of 6, and a MinPS of 10 and MaxPS of 14 which resulted in a MinIpap of 16 and a MaxIpap of 20, instead of 10 and 14, and dang near blasted me out of the bed! I turned it off, reached in the drawer for the manual, reset it, put my mask back on, and went peacefully to sleep at the proper settings. Called the DME in the morning and said, "Uhm, you don't do these ASVs very often, do you?" Answer: no. (Note: ordered.)
