Effect of mask setting on ResMed machines?

Post by BlueDragon » Sun Jan 26, 2025 7:50 pm

One of the settings for the ResMed series (AirCurve 10 VAuto in my case) is for the type of mask: Pillows, Nasal, Full Face. Does anyone know how this setting affects the way the machine operates? Specifically, what happens differently if using a pillows mask and the machine is set for Full Face instead? Or vice-versa? And how does this change affect therapy?

Thanks!

It doesn't really affect the machine operation. It affects mostly the leak calculation.

By "leak calculation," does that mean it affects only the reported leaks, as leaks themselves are not an input to the desired pressure calculation? (Since I use fixed pressure, there would be even less for it to affect.) I should try each setting for a week or so and see if there is any perceptual difference in leak rate reported by OSCAR.

Turns out I already had the data to show that. I am now using a F&P Micro Nova and had about a week with the mask type set to Full Face and another week with it set to Pillows. OSCAR showed more leaks with the pillows setting than with the full face setting.
