ADVICE FOR NEW PROVIDER

Post by Viraj3474 » Fri Nov 29, 2024 12:53 pm

Am looking for a different cpap machine provider and a place for supplies. I am wondering about internet cpap machine providers and if they work through Medicare like my present supplier. I started thinking about this when my I ran into a problem with my cpap machine this morning and posted about it earlier. My present supplier said they no longer provide loaner machine and also told me if I need a new machine, it may take two to three weeks to receive a new one! How do cpap users manage sleep without their machines? And are online providers a good choice?

I can't imagine that most wouldn't take medicare. Might be best to just do a search for provider's and just ask them.

We keep a backup machine and advise that everyone keeps a backup machine.

I personally know of none who will submit a Medicare claim.

You might want to call Medicare at the number below and ask them.
If you have contacted your doctor, provider, or supplier, and they haven’t filed your claim, call us at 1-800-MEDICARE.

Thanks for your thoughts.

You’re a Chicago native it seems. I was born and raised in Chgo back in the 40s and 50s. Wonderful city then. Low crime due to a tough mayor; he actually cared about the city and its reputation. Daley wasn’t perfect, but the city was clean and mostly safe. I remember being downtown in the summer with friends looking for a good Thai restaurant. The beautiful Water Tower had opened up. I remember one Saturday late afternoon watching an artist painting sailboats that were out on the lake. Beautiful old brownstone houses, some turned into classy restaurants. Nice memories. Sigh . . .

I was thinking about buying a small travel type machine with a humidifier as a backup. I believe ResMed has one and will be doing some research about them. Will have to see about providers. Thanks again.

ResMed has a travel machine, but not one with a humidifier. AirMini's have a humidx, a cartridge that captures moisture form you exhalation and re-introduces it back to you.

The only CPAP travel machine that had a humidifier was the Respironics DreamStation Go, but I don't think it survived the recall and Philips is out of the CPAP device market in the US.

Travel machines are a compromise, with many complaining about noise, reporting and lack of OSCAR compatibility.

Google Medicare approved online CPAP provider and you may find some. Make sure that this will work with your supplemental (Medigap) insurer.

Most of us replace our CPAP before it dies--mine "exceeded the motor life", but was still working fine. So it's now my backup machine. But in the 8 or so years I had my prior machine (same make and model) I NEVER had any problems with it that would require a backup machine.

NOTE: if you have an advantage plan, you must use the provider they require you to use. And in most cases with advantage plans, you may NEVER own the machine, so you might have to turn it in to get a new machine.

I don’t have Medicare Advantage. Just an insurance provider and Medicare. I would like to buy one outright but it seems I need to provide a supplier a prescription. Don’t know why. More bureaucratic red tape. :

I know several members use Medicare thru an online supplier.
I only know about two I have personally used.

No problems with either one.

Call them if you have questions about using another insurance.

Good Luck
