Do we need independent heat/humidity, EPR ramp, adaptive brightness/color temp LCD?
I sent these ideas to Resmed for my "fantasy CPAP machine". Does anyone else want features like this or do you have any ideas for workarounds? Might try cutting a little bit of orange filter for simulating low pressure sodium vapor lights and covering the screen with it
-An independent timed ramp-up to the preferred values set for the Climateline’s heat and humidity. It would help those that feel claustrophobic with this feature engaged and have difficulty falling asleep with it but ultimately benefit (less dry airway passages).
-An EPR ramp-down that is independent of the pressure ramp. I believe currently if you want to the EPR to disable after you nod-off (x number of minutes) you need to deal with the machine ramping the pressure from below the set minimum pressure value which at first can lead to the sensation of not getting enough air.
-Screen adaptive brightness and/or color temperature. If the user needs to fiddle with the machine in darkness their eyeballs get blasted with blueish-white light.

So the price of a CPAP would increase by several hundred dollars and most people wouldn't care about those changes.

No.
EPR option already has a way to end EPR when ramp period ends....it's called EPR in "ramp only" if someone only wants a short period of time. EPR can end easily when ramp has ended either through timed setting for ramp or using auto ramp and letting ramp end when the machine thinks I am asleep.
I can already keep humidity and heat hose settings independent of each other.....it's called manual settings. It's what I use currently.
And I could care less about looking at the machine's screen in the middle of the night. Never do it....don't need to.
And I don't need a clock or radio on my machine....this has been "wished" for by some people for years and years.
And I sure don't want to pay more for a machine with a bunch of stuff I already have or don't need or want.

Ouch, my feels. A clock radio, that's a wonderful idea (with faux-woodgrain and a VFD display)! Well, I suppose the internet crowd has spoken. There's a significant number of people who regrettably accept the health implications of untreated apnea and bin their CPAP because they can't tolerate it. I would think anything that allows further customizability and for comfort features to be dialed-in to the nth degree would be a good thing. The majority of the cost increases would be the opportunistic (predatory) pricing of rolling out a "new" model. Resmed's blueprint is "The Apple product that you'll die without". This just isn't sustainable in the long term, it's just a matter of time...

My observation of those who fail at PAP therapy may fall into several groups.
Never take it out of the box.
Bring home a machine set wide open. Can not tolerate the extremes. After a few days put it in the closet for posterity.
No meaningful support from medical/DME providers. My wife would have fallen in this category if not for my decade of experience. Her brother refused to use his PAP for more than an hour a night if that, in spite of my offer of help. He died of respiratory failure.
They actually get advice from practitioners who know less than they do. We experienced this at our local Crapria office.
Those who fail seldom look at the screen and are even less likely to understand what they are looking at when they do.
The success stories are from people who find a site like this one and engage and learn from the experience of many who went before them.
There are also those few who actually find that one in a thousand practitioner who actually knows/cares enough to help them succeed.

I know several people who "failed". None of them got anywhere near what you mentioned. They don't even know which model machine or mask they have. Few know what their pressure is set to.onomatopoeiahubris wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 12:29 pmThere's a significant number of people who regrettably accept the health implications of untreated apnea and bin their CPAP because they can't tolerate it.
