HELP PLEASE!!!!

Post by Breath87895 » Sun Jul 28, 2024 6:48 pm

I have a ResMed Air Sense 11. I wake up gasping for air! I can’t get a deep breath! I can’t breathe through my nose! Then, I get lightheaded and dizzy. I have a full face mask. I don’t know what to do. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

Sounds like you had an O2 desaturation. If the power turned off and on this could happen.

We need to know your settings and see your graphs... easiest for us is if you upload your machine's SD card to SleepHQ and post the night in question. If you don't have an SD card you can get one from an old camera etc, just about anything full-size below 32gig will work. SleepHQ is a free website that makes it easy to share sleep data, here's a night of mine:

Never cover your mask exhaust ports, that will cause this problem! Your nose is plugged? Is the machine still on? The thing about CPAP is, the harder and faster you breathe the less oxygen you get... the system is designed for light sleep breathing, your exhalations have to go out the exhaust ports. How long have you been on PAP therapy? Is this a regular thing, or first time? So many questions I know. Many of us have to prepare our nose for bed, lots of different things you can do there.

My mask exports were not covered but my nose was plugged. I kept adjusting my mask while trying to get deep breaths. I have been on PAP therapy for 4 nights and this was my first episode. My nose still seems plugged when I try to take deep breaths, and my head still hurts. I’m not doing PAP therapy tonight.

No.
We know nothing of your machine
We know nothing of your settings
We know nothing of the reasons you are being given CPAP therapy
We know nothing of any other health problems you may be having.
We don't even know if your machine turns on automatically when you breathe, or if it expects you to turn it on.

You should notify your doctor's office about that.

Do you know what your minimum pressure is? I had trouble getting enough air when I was started out with a minimum of 4. That was too low, and it's too low for most adults. A minimum of 7 made all the difference for me.

But this just underlines the point that we need to know a lot more before we can help you, so I hope you'll answer the questions raised above and follow the suggestions others have made.
