Post-CPAP Oximetry Results Interpretation

Post by Franko39 » Sun Jun 30, 2024 11:00 am

Hi everyone,

I started CPAP therapy a few months ago. At the time of my initial sleep study, it was reported that I had 37 minutes of sleep < 90% oxygen sat. Someone on another forum suggested I repeat the overnight oximetry test while using my CPAP machine, to confirm that the low oxygen sat issue had been resolved by CPAP therapy.

I went ahead and did just that - results of the repeat overnight oximetry are attached. Would anyone be able to help me interpret the results? From my layman's view of the numbers, it seem to report that I had 0.2% time < 90% saturation, which sounds pretty good to me. If I'm understanding that right, it would translate to less than a minute < 90% sat during the night.

Thanks in advance for any help!

That's a very good result.

Did that person have any reason to think you had a lung dysfunction?

Your doctor should interpret the results for you. To my eye, this all looks good. You have a few brief desats that take you below 90, which is inconsequential.

Sorry, I missed this reply!

That person didn't have any reason to suspect that I had lung function, but had advised that I err on the side of caution and confirm that CPAP therapy has indeed resolved my low O2 sat (As 37 minutes < 90% O2 on my original sleep study was pretty horrible).
