Knightsbridge Owners.....

Hey Crew,

do you put your cap on:

under your headgear or....

over your headgear....

What works best for you?

Under is where it belongs. I had to discontinue since it forced my teeth to clench and my overbite forced my jaw back. Now I mouth-tape with full-face and use a MAD before bed.

I put my Knightsbridge on over the headgear because it does not work under. I could not get a good fit on my mask with the Knightsbridge under the headgear. It may depend on your headgear. I use an N30 right now. The lady at the DME, who also uses CPAP, said she liked the headgear to be in direct contact with the head, so she put her chinstrap on last, also. She did not say what kind of chinstrap she wore.

I never thought about taping with a FFM. I briefly tried to a nasal mask and couldn't handle it but I also have a deviated septum.

How do you tape exactly? Appreciate the help.

Interesting thanks. This makes sense to ME because the material it's made of is somewhat "slippery" so I could see where the headgear might shift around. Also you have the layer of velcro strap(s) on the right side at the top and the top straps have to be a little looser to go over the velcro. So, uneven tension on the cushion?

How long have you been doing KB over headgear?

I guess the one thing I worry about is: what if you have to ditch the mask quickly?

For reference I'm wearing AirTouch/AirFit F20's.

I guess it's been about 2 months, which is about as long as I've successfully kept my mask on all night.

I would try it both ways, over and under. A full face mask has different headgear and might work better over the Knightsbridge than an N30 does.

Since I wear a nasal cushion, I've never had to quickly remove my mask for any reason. I just open my mouth and breathe through my mouth. If I get up in the night, I disconnect the hose from the tube leaving the headgear and Knightsbridge on my head.

Maybe you could practice when you're wide awake to see how easy it would be to remove the setup quickly.

I developed a method when using a nasal mask... it takes three pieces. We're talking Cover Roll Stretch tape, right? CRST. I can see where nasal pillows users would want the headgear under the cap/strap... mea culpa.

I cut three pieces, two a little over 2", one 3" in length. I tape the mouth corners with the shorter pieces vertically, from just inside the corner outward, making sure to start in the corner, you want the tape to fit like it's painted on. Then I tuck my lips in and put the long piece across. This will hold 14cm pressure all night... anything less and I'd get mouth leaking, wake with dry mouth.

Now that I'm using a FF mask I just put a 2.5" piece across (tuck your lips!) to prevent the lips opening. It does not have to hold the pressure (now up to 17/21 bi-level) so the seal is not critical... it prevents drooling, mouth breathing, and actually helps some with jaw drop. I also use CRST to fix my O2Ring in place, I'd get crazy pulse readings (200bpm!) without it.

The younger folks may not have a problem with mouth leaking... I didn't for over a decade. After I hit about 62yo, the mystery dry mouth started... I guess I'm more relaxed!
