Dry Mouth

Post by chzuck » Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:00 am

Looking for ideas to avoid dry mouth. I use a Air Fit F20 full mask and suffer from nasal congestion at times. I sometimes use breathe rite strips to help keep my noise open, but the mask, at times, makes things worse as it puts pressure on the upper part of my nose. I had ask my provide about the AirFit F30 and he said it is only for the nose and there are no openings for the mouth. My concern is that dry mouth may result in tooth decay and other issues. Again, a newbie looking for some ideas.

He/she is an idiot. Pretty sad when suppliers don't know their basic products and promote incorrect information which perhaps keeps someone from trying (and being successful) with any mask.

The F30 does indeed have an opening to encase the mouth as well as the nostrils.
It is considered a full face mask. All it takes is a brief look at the cushion to know that fact.

ResMed has another (and just released) full face mask....The AirFit F40
https://www.resmed.com/en-us/healthcare ... irfit-f40/

You might take a look at it.

In the thread above one of the forum members got the F40 and compared it to the F30 with pictures included.
Easily seen are the openings for the nostril breathing as well as the much larger mouth opening in both models.

I agree on the mask. If it covers you mouth, it would have an air supply as well. I admit that I have nasal issues and have a deviated septum and may need my turbinate reduction. I know I will get more help here than by my provider. It seems all they are concerned with is the narrow results the ResMed App shows. Thanks for that new mask info. I will buy one myself if need be to evaluate, then request they change my prescription.

xylimelts. it's a slow release lozenge that you place between cheek and gum. you can find it in the oral health care section of your drugstore. if not, then at amazon-

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.

The Breathe-Rite is not the best in this field... Lanky Jason uses and recommends MUTE:

https://www.amazon.com/Rhinomed-Solutio ... B011LR55UU

Vic Veer demos a different product, the NasalAid:

I am not afflicted with nostril collapse, however...

I use and am addicted to Afrin... you won't find anyone else here recommending it. I've used it for decades... I buy the generic pump mist spray and dose the worst nostril with two squirts before bed... when the nostril clears I blow the stuff out. *Then I tape my mouth*, even though I'm using a full-face Vitera mask.

You gotta do what you gotta do.

I agree. I use Neo Synephrine. Try to use it sparingly as they say it can cause reverse effects. But when you lay there and cannot breath through you nose and struggle to fall asleep, you take a chance.

Afrin is a much newer medicine... oxymetazoline HCL has the effect of inducing adrenaline-like hormones in the dosed tissues... that's why the effect lasts for 12 hours instead of 4.
Mechanism of Action
Oxymetazoline is a selective α1 adrenergic receptor agonist, which mediates vascular smooth muscle contraction and subsequent vasoconstriction of small vessels in the skin. In addition to its vasoconstrictive effects, it has been demonstrated to have direct anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, in part by modulating metabolites of arachidonic acid.78
I've tried 'em all, have had a long-running battle with my sinus (since junior high, 50 years?)... my life changed when Afrin came out. Now in generic, it's way cheap... the generics are not quite as pure, hence strong... this is probably a plus in my case. And it has to be the pump mist, not the squeeze... I guess all addicts have their fave rig... I buy the squeeze and refill the pump. Particularly fond of a new generic in the 1oz size that contains menthol... like Kool Filter Kings for the nose!

I am concerned that I have over used Neo Synephrine. I, like you, have been plagued with sinus/ear issues since birth. I finally found an ENT that I think will help. He mentioned my deviated septum and turbinate reduction. I used Flonase for years, but noticed little help from it. I am a mouth breather and my mask does not help that issue. I use Breath rite strips, but something better was mentioned on here and I need to look into that. Things like even using the strips or the cream to prevent red marks from the mask were never mentioned at my provider. I submit they are more concerned with numbers on the ResMed app and providing equipment, than helping their patients. When I mentioned OSCAR, there was no response. I think, here on this forum, I will get more and better help. People on here actually use the equipment!
