Buying a CPAP before getting a sleep study?

Post by damndenis » Sat Mar 16, 2024 1:25 am

Hello,

Just started my journey getting diagnosed, problem is I'll have to wait 6 months for a sleep study. My snoring made my friends think a bear visited our campsite, I wake up multiple times throughout the night, sometimes in a comfy pool of me own sweat.

Bought a somewhat expensive pulse oximeter and downloaded a sleep recording app, found out my heart beat looks like a Skrillex song. Although oxygen levels are stable, heart beat is constantly jumping through the night, it also doesn't match the intensity of snoring.

Honestly I could barely function these past 6 years, fatigue killed my goals and aspirations in life. Would it be unwise to buy a CPAP machine ( used preferably) and self-titrate with OSCAR before getting an actual sleep study?

I apologize for any mistakes in advance, English isn't my native language.

Based on that one hour snippet, you don't have sleep apnea.
Freeze this moment a little bit longer.
Make each sensation a little bit stronger.
Experience slips away.

How so? Aren't oxygen levels and pulse not enough to neither deny nor confirm sleep apnea?

The app only allows viewing for 1 hour at a time, so that sucks. But in 4 days the lowest my oxygen has been was at 88% ( for about 2 minutes).
