Inspire advertising is Anti-CPAP advertising!

Post by D.H. » Wed Feb 21, 2024 8:26 pm

The Inspire commercials on TV are showing patients completely unable to use CPAP and that they should use Inspire instead.

Admittedly, some people just can't use CPAP or legitimately prefer to try something else.

However, CPAP is presented as something very scary, and can be very intimidating to new patients.

Having used CPAP since 1999 - before Inspire was an option - I'm not anxious to fix "what ain't broke!"

I don't like that new patients are being scared off, before they even see a sleep doctor.

Agreed, I find the ads fairly offensive.

Which shows/channels show those commercials so I know which channels to boycott?
The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

It’s totally misleading, and appears to be an invasive surgery. They implant it in your body. This company is bad news in my opinion.

I agree they are playing to an audience of people who don't like the idea of CPAP in the first place, and using that to sell their product, which is expensive, invasive, and not the best treatment for everyone. That's how commercialism and capitalism work.

But the implication that Inspire is inherently an evil thing is just the other side of the same coin. It doesn't work for everyone, but it must work for some people. I met someone who faithfully used CPAP and didn't get the benefit (mostly cognitive improvement) from it she has gotten from Inspire. Not every treatment is ideal for every person, clearly she did better with that device.

People don't come here to report their success stories with Inspire because this is a very CPAP oriented forum. But that doesn't mean it isn't successful for many.

I've just decided that if I ever for some unknown reason can not tolerate CPAP any longer that Inspire will not be an alternative  .

Warning....Surgical footage....

I'm not knocking Inspire. There are some who legitimately can't tolerate CPAP.

However, it is surgery and you do have a device planted in your body. Think of the CPAP recall that happened in 2021! Imagine if an implanted device had been recalled!

CPAP should almost always be tried first, as it can be discontinued. Inspire is inside you and either must be removed or just left to "sit there!"
