My wife has been using the Phillips Dreamstation and then -> Dreamstation 2 after their recall. For maybe about 10 years, Phillips. About 2 minutes after reading the December ProPublica article about Phillips fudging their data to FDA and having formaldehyde in the air stream, I ordered her an Airsense 10 (which I use myself). Got the $399 card to cloud out of pocket.
While the Phillips worked well for her, with her AHI usually under 5, the Airsense 10 seems to be a big change for the better. I’m not going to do math to quantify a % difference or anything, but in the days she’s used the new machine her AHI has been under 1 every night, with the worst night at .6 and the best night at 0.0. I suppose it could be a difference in sensitivity in the way the machine measures it, but I’m guessing that’s not it. I looked at OSCAR data, and it was really smooth and event free. (Hers is working better than mine, but mine is OK too, almost always under AHI 5 and usually under 2.
I suppose the ResMed could have formaldehyde as well, but I think I’ll trust them over Phillips.
My first post to this board was on my way to my DME last summer, and I was pretty ignorant (though I knew Phillips had had problems in the past). I was asking whether to go with Phillips or Resmed. No contest I’d say. I’m fully on team ResMed.

Resmed is a quality machine. I am of the opinion, when a company gets caught with "their hand in the cookie jar", they need to "earn" my trust.

you aren't the first person to notice this. many(myself included) report a better overall experience with a resmed vs philips. not ALL mind you but most of us.
i'm just so happy that i switched out long before this "foamgate" incident occured.

Re: Replaced Phillips with Airsense 10
I used a Philips for the first 6 years and then switched to an Airsense 10. My impression is that the Airsense algorithm is smooth as glass, I always felt like I was fighting with the Philips because it seemed to push me to breathe in an unnatural rhythm.
I don't love that we have to take it on faith that the materials in the ResMed machine are any better. Between the machine, the hoses and masks we are breathing in small particles of manmade stuff we don't really know all that much about the long-term health effects. But we do know that sleep apnea is a crippler and a killer, so we pay our money and take our chances.

Re: Replaced Phillips with Airsense 10
I can't judge any other product. I've only used Resmed and their products since February 2008 when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. No complaints at all.
