ASV machines

Hi all,

I just had another post about VPAP, but I am in need of a new VPAP machine that is ASV compatible. I currently have an S9 VPAP Adapt machine that has over 22,000 hours and has multiple error codes, including 'Motor life exceeded: Please contact service provider' and MULTIPLE humidifier errors... I could list them all here, but they are irrelevant. I desperately NEED an new ASV machine. What are my options? Or, is there another forum that you can direct me to?

Do I absolutely have to have an ASV machine?

I don't know where to ask these questions. My PCP has no clue....sigh.

Depends on why you are on ASV.....
Do you have a history of central apnea or obstructive apnea or a combination of both?

Combo. I had a heart attack in 2007 at age 40. I am now 56.

I honestly feel that I cannot live without my machine. We've had power outages where I told my husband that my VPAP MUST be plugged into the generator. I don't care if we lose the contents of the fridge, I CANNOT live without my machine.

I went one night without it a few years ago and I could not sleep, at all.

I got one trusted source only for an ASV machine privately. Let me send Larry a PM.
They are as scarce as hens teeth.

Masks are easy....they will all work with ASV.

Wait....I just remembered one other potential source. I think he may still have either an ADAPT or maybe even a newer model ASV. Let me send him a note as well.
He doesn't use ASV but his brother did.

If you have central sleep apnea (including complex apnea, mixed apnea and/or Cheyne Stokes respiration) then yes, you do need an ASV. Presumably you had one of these conditions when your were first prescribed the VPAP Adapt.

The Resmed ASV is widely available here in Australia. I notice that 1800CPAP has them in stock in the US, but CPAP.com (the forum sponsor) are out of stock. These machines are expensive, but do a wonderful job of treating central sleep apnea.

An AHI of 5 or under is generally regarded as "clinically treated" so maybe you could get away with an APAP. In my experience, APAPs will not give a consistent level of treatment if you have CA. You will get some good nights and some bad ones. Personally, I'd dispute the use of 5 as the cutoff, and try to achieve an AHI of 2.0 or better. This is based on personal experience, where anything much over 2 makes me feel like crap the next day.
