Getting ahi events while awake
Trying to eliminate causes for a increase in my AHI score. I attached my cpap, remained awake and breathed normally for over an hour and had many events. Im assuming that sitting up awake should not score any AHI events but it does. Tried replacing the nasal pillows and headgear with no luck. Can anyone tell me if it is normal for the cpap to score AHI when awake? My cpap machine is a reconditioned Phillips Dreamstation with about 3 years usage.

They can and will flag apnea events while awake.tommcdow47 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 7:08 pmCan anyone tell me if it is normal for the cpap to score AHI when awake?
These machines measure air flow only and have no way to know if we are asleep or not.
This air flow can be very irregular while awake and the machine can/will flag that irregular breathing as some sort of apnea event.
I use this example below to show the very regular rhythmic breathing (circled in red) to compare the difference in flow rate/breathing.
We have to ignore these false positive flagged events and they don't mean much except we weren't asleep.
If we see a LOT of it then we have a sleep problem but not necessarily an airway problem.
