Hi
I just acquired an apap with a RESMD Mirage FX nasal mask. I noticed that once i lay down to sleep on my side or even on my back, there are leaks above the mouth/below the nose which disturb me and prevent me from sleeping normally as 99% of the time some air blowing on my upper lips even at the lowest pressure (ramped untill 20 min)
So far i tried to loosen or tighten the upper/lower part of the mask with no success. Also tried with 2 other pillows but same results. Is the mask faulty or it just doesn't fit the face? to put it simply, the nasal part goes "upward" whenever i try to lay down or on my back, even extremely tight, it doesnt prevent leak on top of making it uncomfortable
Nasal mask leaking below nose
Re: Nasal mask leaking below nose
All masks expell CO2 from a small hole beneath the nose. It's not really a leak you can control.

Re: Nasal mask leaking below nose
Its not a small amount but rather huge, i don't get it untill i start laying down and trying to get comfortable, titling my head one step further to sleep cause the mask to slightly upward and leaking a TON of air which makes it close to impossible to sleep: took me 40 min as opposed to 4 min sleeping with the mask because of the amount of air and i only worn it for 1h before waking up

welcome to the zoo!
may i suggest going to you tube and searching for mask fitting videos? be sure to put your specific mask in the search terms. and if there is more than one video, watch them all.
good luck!

Re: Nasal mask leaking below nose
Try a full face mask.
Why did you get prescribed a nasal mask?

Re: Nasal mask leaking below nose
Hey, i checked most videos and made sure it fit the same way but i'm still getting leaks
The problem i noticed is that no matter how the mask fit, it will start leaking once the pressure is above 4 which makes it borderline impossible to sleep with it as even awake its uncomfortable and i noticed i woke up after only few min at night despite being used to it
It seems the "plastic" used around this mask to retain the air is already at its limit when at 4 and start giving up and leaking above. Should i try to ask for another mask or?
I didn't choose, its what the doctor prescribed me. Might be because i don't mouthbreath? My AHI is kind of high, around 39 so i don't know if it matter in term of mask type
Re: Nasal mask leaking below nose
if'n it were ME, i certainly would. many of us here on the forum have been through many masks before we've found the one that was right for us.
in my opinion, finding the mask that is THE one for you is simply the most difficult part of this sleep apnea journey. if you aren't happy with the mask, you can't very well expect to be compliant.
so yes, feel free to explore. the forum sponsor, cpap.com, has a return policy. not sure exactly what that policy is at this time. it used to be 30 days, but i believe that doesn't apply to all their masks anymore.
but it's worth checking out. and they have customer reviews on the site as well.
good luck!
