I see nothing in the user agreement that says I can't be annoying.
*scrutinizes user agreement, emails johnny goodman to discuss changes*

There is enough garbage already on our email.
I prefer to be texted--way less traffic on there.
Can you have your email text you?

I think the Internet is annoying.
But I keep my PM notifications on here just so Zonker can quickly, easily, and conveniently give me a hard time any time he chooses to do so.
pugsy please lock this thread at once! i find this person's rude behavior to be intolerable!!
oh! never mind. it's lazarus.
thought it was someone else.

Reason # 42:
I just had two (2) email notices go into my "Spam" folder so I didn't see them.
Just sayin
could you tell me the gist of what that email said? i'm not asking for specific content.
what i mean to say is, is it a case of "hey, you got a message at cpaptalk.com". or is it the entire message someone typed on the forum to you?

I hope not.
There is mostly worthless dreck in my email.
If I ever got anything of consequence, I'd never see it.
It's getting as bad as robo calls.
We dropped our land line way back in the 80's.

There is no reason to use or read the email notifications if someone will just look up in the right corner for the notifications when it comes to private messages.
I turned off email notifications years and years ago.
Reason #43, Not everyone stays logged on here ALL Day long.
you do or at least you don't log out. i can tell from your user profile.
and so do i. BUT, i still get those notifications here in the forum every time i refresh my screen.

Notification only appear when you log on.
If you browse ALL Day long without logging on, you don't see them.
not true. see my own response to sleepgeek.

thanks, everyone! let's keep this conversation going. and i hope the newer users chime in as well.
so far, it seems to me, what we've discovered is that you don't need email notification that you have a new message here or a pm.
this is, of course, dependent on whether someone quotes what you've said in a response to you. if someone doesn't quote you, no notification. and i mean this in open forum back and forth. pm is a totally different thing. you see that notification every time you either log in or refresh your screen.
therefor, the bottom line is you don't have to tell someone in open forum that you've left them a private message.
does that make sense?

Quotes and PMs will trigger the notification, but a reply without a quote slides under the radar.

Not over-reacting despite being portrayed as some sort of forum villain.......
This is what has frustrated the OP.
I sent PM to another user, and after a ~24 hours I posted (in his thread) five words.
The other user responded to my PM, and in that response asked me a question about a city nearby my location.
I sent him a PM reply to his question, and after ~48 hours, posted in his public thread a reminder that I answered his question (15 words).
Now, about 96 hours later, I have not heard from him again, and have no expectation of continuing that particular private discussion unless he initiates it.
It has been over five days and he has not posted anything publicly (or privately).
Now, I really don't get what the big deal is. It's no way comparable to the reminiscence of a "friend" calling every half-hour.
Finally, I'd like to point out (in defense of my sugggestion that newbies may not even be aware of a Private Message function) that when I login on my phone, there is no text in the upper right that looks like what the OP posted (that says "Personal Messages' with a counter). Now it might just be that is peculiar to my iphone, or some other HTML function, but the only "thing" that is there is an icon with no label.

My public post that there is a private message is simply to call attention so the user can look for how to get the PM awaiting.
