Phillips DS1 vs DS1-replacement vs DS2
Phillips DS1 vs DS1-replacement vs DS2
Hi Everyone. I have been digging into Phillips dreamstations all day (having been affected by the DS1 recall). The replacement device I received looks like the DS1, but I was always under the impression that that would be/was/is the DS2. However, researching further, it looks like the DS2 is a completely different machine (two-tone black/grey case) and the DS1-replacement is basically still a DS1. Is that correct? If so, I can't believe I missed this. Thanks

Woops... yeah... just found this https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/ ... py-systems
So, in summary, it looks like the white long flat models are always DS1, and the two-tone grey/black fatter models are always DS2
And thus the replacement devices sent out by Phillips are DS1 as well? I thought they were sending DS2's
Please tell me if I have this correct now. Thanks

Re: Phillips DS1 vs DS1-replacement vs DS2
They have been sending out both to CPAP users. Initially, they were sending out mostly DS2s and making new DS1 machines until people started sending enough DS1s back they could up the mix of repaired/refurbished DS1s. There are still many people getting DS2s, while others of us have received new or refurbished DS1s. The DS2 isn't available in BiPAP, so we have been receiving either new or refurbished DS1 units. Other than that there seems to be no discernable rule to figure out how they are deciding what to send to whom.R19 wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 6:27 pmWoops... yeah... just found this https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/ ... py-systems

Re: Phillips DS1 vs DS1-replacement vs DS2
I received a DS1 replacement for my DS 1. When I checked the age of the replacement device on the service menu, I found that the machine I'd been sent was one year older than my machine. I felt pretty upset being given the choice of continuing to use a machine that could make me very ill, or accepting a machine with a year less life left on it.
How many of you who received DS 1s have checked your date of manufacture? Was it the same, newer, or oder than what you sent in?
After I read more reporting of the Phillips cover up of this problem, my earlier opinion (based on their publicity) that they were being proactive changed. Being given an old replacement machine, guarantees that I'll never buy another Phillips machine again!

As long as there are cheapo consumers who choose budget over health,
there will be companies willing to make and sell cheap crap.
Natural selection, of a sort.

Let's us hope that they do not survive. What they've done is unconscionable.zonker wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 8:09 pmi don't see much hope of the cpap division of philips surviving after this ridiculous cluster ^&$%.rcpettengill wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 5:20 pmBeing given an old replacement machine, guarantees that I'll never buy another Phillips machine again!

Re: Phillips DS1 vs DS1-replacement vs DS2
What would be the second choice of CPAP machines if Philips was no longer around and ResMed machines were in short supply due to high demand or other availability issues?

I second Grumpy48's view and hope Philips remains in the business post-recall. Right now the only two major players left are Philips and ResMed as most others have dropped out of the market due to low market shares, pandemic supply issues and possibly to avoid similar recall foam issues on their devices.
Given Philips market share that was 40% + pre-recall it's likely they will stay in the market given the money to be made going forward.
