Using tape on mouth

It appears according to my wife that when I sleep, with mask fitting well, my mouth is constantly opening.I wake up with little energy, long time user.Its been suggested I place 3m surgical tape across my mouth.Thoughts ?

I wear a nasal cushion mask (DreamWear or ResMed N30i) and use kinesiology tape as it is gentle to remove. Been doing this for about 18 months with no problem whatsoever. I can’t speak about tape with a FFM.

I, and a lot us use tape to stop mouth leaks.

I use 3M 2" tape and it works great for me.

My process:

1. Wash face in the evening - leave face where tape will adhere slightly damp.
2. Thoroughly dry lips
3. Rip tape off roll, estimating ~2" beyond mouth (so maybe 5-6" long? guessing)
4. Fold over one corner to make sure you can remove it easily in the morning.
5. Make an 'inverted kiss' - gently suck lips in towards tongue - this reduces likelihood tape will release during the night.
6. Apply tape.
7. Rub gently but thoroughly on all areas.


I have done this since I started, and am very pleased with it. (sure, I wish I didn't need to deal with any of this stuff and I look ridiculous at bedtime --- but it works!).

NOTE: As a guy who wet shaves / clean shaven, I find it sticks best on the days I shave and use a post-shave lotion. I usually shave every 2-3 days, if I wait for 3 days it usually doesn't stick well. So I either use an electric (UGH!) or try to shave every 2 days.

I have used every brand of tape along with chin straps. I've been using the bleep device for a few weeks which eliminates my problem of leaks from a mask. (I have even mounted a camera above my bed and I could see my cheeks popping up) however, I find that sometimes the pressure of the air coming out of my mouth is so strong it's loosening the tape and causing leak. I was wondering if when I put the tape on maybe I should make a small hole to relieve some pressure? I can't I won't wear a full face mask due to the number of leaks Plus after a few years I see my teeth have moved around. Last night was my first night of using the vcom at first it felt I wasn't getting enough air on inhalation however the biggest difference I'm seeing is that I was having a number of Ca episodes now it was reduced to one whatever that means. Last night might have been the first time that the tape had such a large jump in leaking yet it's a system I've been using for a few days that worked very well

any suggestions.

Thanks for all the replies. The tape I use certainly reduces leakage but still not feeling any fresher after 8 hours sleep. Then again I have a cardiac issue where arteries are partially blocked which causes constant fatigue during the day. The 2 'sleep specialists I had consultations with and 2 sleep tests ,one at home, were far from convincing more interested in selling me product. Being in Thailand there is no insurance once over 70 ( I am 80) and with pre existing conditions (1 mild stroke on my 70th birthday) so guess I will just let nature take its course. Afternoon nap without using CPAP makes little difference, Sleep Apnia is all a bit of a mystery to me actually, results and methods vary considerably even among close friends

What are the chances you can download Oscar from the Stickies here and post results on Imgur.com, leaving a link in this thread so experts can see what's what and advise if any adjustments, pressure changes, etc. might need doing?

I will be doing the posting later today. Unfortunately day before yesterday I forgot to put the SD card back in the machine. However I did put it in last night. I will say that for some reason I see a lot of CA ca and yet I look at my camera I don't see anything going on I don't see much of any movement. I taped last night putting the 3m micropore first and then that other tape over it and I felt that it was pretty secure. As soon as I got up I blew hard and I saw it was still pretty tight. When I watch the videos and match up the Oscar to the video I see when I have had the leaks my body is trying very hard to breathe through the mouth though I have CPAP on. I do wonder why it im trying to force it through the mouth. Later today I'll do the posting.appreciate the suggestion.

Sorry didn't realize that's what I was doing. However I don't think it was necessary to express yourself in such a way. You obviously need to get more sleep.
