Wierd noise at the end of inhalation
Wierd noise at the end of inhalation
hello,
Last two nights my CPAP is making wierd noise. It starts around 20-30 minutes after I have it on, and I hear this very Faint squeak that sounds like "chunk" at the end of inhalation. I cant figure out where its coming from. I tried to examine my machine and put my ear close to it, but I cant localize the sound. It is driving me nuts as it is not allowing me to sleep.
Its not a leak either. nothing has changed in terms of mask or fitting.
What could it be?

Re: Wierd noise at the end of inhalation
Assuming your signature is correct and your using a FF mask it could be the Anti-asphyxiation valve opening and closing.
This can happen in the pressure is really low, then as you inhale you're drawing the valve open. And the end of the inhale, the pressure will cause it to close, creating a clunk.
Have a hand-mirror or your phone ready. When it starts happening look to the AA valve to see if it's opening and closing.

Weird.
The rule is 'i before e, except after c--etc., etc., etc."
The exceptions make the rule.
Basically, you have to know ALL the exceptions.
"Weird" is just such an exception; because it is, er, weird.
The only alternative to having a "gift"--is hard work--lots of it.
I had a colleague who did it--somewhere in the middle of raising NINE children.
Most people don't do it--I am too lazy.

It sounds like the rainout noises. Try any or all of the following:
• Make sure that the machine is lower than your head.
• Fill the tank a bit less than you've been doing.
• Turn up the heated hose temperature.
• Turn down humidifier temperature.
• Raise the temperature in the room.

Re: Wierd noise at the end of inhalation
It sounds EXACTLY like the sound made by an anti-asphyxiation valve,
which can open momentarily--but makes a similar clunking sound when it springs shut.
All full face masks have this valve, which can make this annoying sound.
--(one of the reasons I avoid full face masks.)
You will get used to it--unless you change masks.

Over the last 12 years, I have used a half dozen FFMs. None of them made this sound.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 10:08 pmAll full face masks have this valve, which can make this annoying sound.

Some are noisier than others--but if your hearing is acute enough, there is a sound.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 7:57 amOver the last 12 years, I have used a half dozen FFMs. None of them made this sound.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 10:08 pmAll full face masks have this valve, which can make this annoying sound.

The snapping valve was one of several reasons I switched.
