help a brand new user?
Hi,
just had my first night on the machine- resmed airsense 11. I am trying airfit p10 for her nasal pillows and no heated tubing. humidity was set at 4. Pressure says 12.4 (is that preset before unit is sent?)
The area above my upper lip is red and irritated today and I have a feeling of pressure in my lungs, causing me to cough occasionally today. My eyes are a just a bit irritated as well.
Is this a normal ramping up experience? the app said that my mask fit was good and that I had a good night sleep....
Thanks in advance

Your chest muscles may feel some soreness from breathing soo deeply. Much like when you workout. This is normal and will fade with time.vespagirl wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 5:38 pmHi,

Sore lip? Is the mask rubbing on your lip? Leaking into your eyes?
Search youtube and here for how to adj. your own pressure but make certain you write down every setting in the cpap before changing anything. And it is preferred to only change one thing at a time so you know if it is helping or not.
Resmed AS 11 is a good cpap but not many people here have one yet because they are sooo new.

Re: help a brand new user?
Youtube will also have mask fitting tips.
Also search here for Lansinoh - sold where ever baby bottles are sold - for help with nasal pillows sealing and rubbing. Just a dab will do.
But keep in mind to do a mask fit (in your sleeping position) before bed each nite. Laying down will change the shape of your face. And if your mask moves with each breath that is a lot of rubbing all nite long.
Edit - Lansinoh - spelling corrected.

Re: help a brand new user?
Thanks so much for your responses!
I raised the humidity by 1 (up from 4 to 5) for last night's sleep. made a big difference (even though it's raining a lot here in norther california). didn't feel the need to cough.
And I'll check out the Lansiloh. Thanks for the tip, however it's spelled.
I think i got a better seal as my eyes don't feel like they did yesterday. But both nights- after I sleep WITH the mask for about 6-7 hours, I take it off and then seem to sleep very deeply without the mask for another 2 or so hours, which is much more than I've slept before. It's almost like I'm giving myself some "non mask" sleep as a gift???? I', assuming this will mellow out as time goes on.

Re: help a brand new user?
Don't beat yourself up about the non-mask time, but do resolve to keep the mask on all night. Using CPAP will get easier a lot faster if you do that. You can also speed up your acclimation by setting the machine up somewhere outside your bedroom during the day or evening and watching TV or reading while you use it. This helps to teach your brain that all these new sensations are OK.
You're just two nights in, and it sounds as though you're squarely on the path to success. Your problem-solving approach will serve you well.

Re: help a brand new user?
The P10 was my least liked because it hurt my nose and it leaked up into my eyes. My current one is a P30i love it the hose is over my head and rotates so I don't even feel it. The swift FX was also a good one.
Re: help a brand new user?
The P10 can be very painful at first, The first night I used it, I gave up in pain after a couple hours, but every night, I'd have it on longer, until after a week or two, it stopped bothering me, and hadn't bothered me since (several years now).
glad you found something you like!
