dry mouth

Post by jsimms435 » Mon Dec 19, 2022 7:38 am

I have been using cpap machine for the last 2-3 years with some good success. However, I noticed that my mouth is very dry in the morning. I have a resmed airsense 10 and I do use distilled water in the water container it has on it. I just wonder if there is something I can do to help with this like raise the humidity level of the machine or if someone here has some quick fixes for this? I use a full face mask mainly due to having many allergies and difficulty just breathing through my nose as I am often congested

A few questions…

When did you start having problems with a dry mouth?
What is your humidity and hose temp set to today?
What are your pressure/EPR/PS settings?
Any leaks showing up on your machine or OSCAR?
What meds do you take?
What is your room humidity?
Do you have a humidifier in the room or house?

We can throw out wild recommendations, but facts are much preferred.

It sounds as though you're breathing through your mouth a lot inside your full-face mask. You might try using Xylimelts, which a discs that stick to your gum or teeth and stimulate the production of saliva throughout the night.

You might also ask your doctor for a referral to an allergist to see whether there's any way to help you breathe more of the time through your nose. There are pills, nasal sprays, and rinses that might be of some help to you; for some people, allergy shots may make sense.
