Making the Hans Rudolph Quest work

Post by havenforbid » Sat Nov 19, 2022 11:40 am

I so want to see the Hans Rudolph Quest mask work for me, but the problems are twofold: it is still remarkably hard by today's CPAP mask standards (even though softer than its predecessors), and 2) it leaks. Maybe a little above my nose, and perhaps at my cheekbones. Has anyone found a way to over come these issues?

I want to see this mask work well for me because it's one of the very few that go under the chin. The other ones move around my face considerably. I also don't think it's a coincidence that most of the masks and respirators used for protection go under the chin. I tried the F & P Forma but although comfortable my chin kept slipping under the bottom of the mask..

Welcome! I wish I had an answer to your question, but I'm afraid I don't.

There may be a way to make your current mask work, but it's possible it just isn't quite right for the unique contours of your face. Have you tried browsing web sites for companies that sell CPAP stuff? You could probably tell from photos of full-face masks whether they go under the chin or not. It might be worth trying a different mask. If your insurance won't cover one, look for a web site that has a good exchange policy for masks.

I also wonder whether it'd be helpful to you to try a soft cervical collar to prop your jaw up. For me, a collar is really pretty comfortable; you may have a different experience, though.

And one other thought: do you breathe through your mouth during the day? I'm wondering whether you could use a nasal mask or nasal pillow mask.

i don't know if this is something that will help or not, but try visiting padacheek.com. karen makes mask liners. i have NO idea if she has one that will work for your mask, but you might try contacting her and see.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

My hubby had a total face mask (fitlife) a size too large.
It fit right below his chin, and made an adorable wave in his beard.

I've been using the F&P 431 mask for > 10 years, it has a chin support that (for me) works 99% of the time. Last year my DME said that it had been discontinued and replaced with the Forma.
I tried the forma, and did not like it at all. Called F&P to verify that they were no longer making the 431. F&P said no, they were still manufacturing it, but the DMEs are pushing the Forma.
Eventually my DME agreed to order the 431(since they don't stock it) and I've been happy ever since.
Best of luck.
