...a typical doc ...
BTW is this "typical doc" male or female?
Because as we are now moving into generalizations and stereotypes, I guess I am just as guilty!

So does that mean it can be considered an unfair stereotype to reject all generalizations as bad?

Without reading all the comments, my 1st thought is that men seem to snore more as a result of apnea. Which makes it a much more visible, er audible, problem. Symptoms in women I believe tend to be more subtle based on my reading, and many such as fatigue, depression, and memory and concentration issues can be blamed on lots of other things (often hormonal). So it's got to be a bit of a diagnostic puzzle.

I can't tell you how many times I've been told that I'm just a woman and [insert ailment] is part of life now.

Believe it or not YESTERDAY I had a woman tell me that women just don’t sleep well. I disagreed.

Maybe the bigger problem is the males fall deeper to sleep and/or simply don’t hear thier bed partner’s snoring. Thus lower reporting rates.

I could not convince my wife to be tested for Sleep Apnea, so i just happened to mention the fact that she snored and would stop breathing when she slept. Our doctor scheduled her for a sleep study. At first, she was upset with me, but once she started using her machine she began to feel better almost immediately. She has used her machine for over five years.

It is good to have a spouse present for medical appointments.
The best excuse is two minds are better than one, or one carries the paperwork.
There is a lot to remember to tell the doc--and more to retain for later.
You did not really "rat her out"--but merely recalled a problem she "forgot."
The bullfrog was present for all my chemo sessions.
He might have been the first to notice if things went awry.

Well in a way, she's correct. If you look at WSCS and their analysis of women's sleep, turns out that although post-menopausal women had objectively much better sleep than pre-menopausal women, they felt that they actually slept poorly (twice as bad as pre-menopausal women).

It is theorized that this is due to the Golgoltha Principle, which states than older women aren't happy unless they're lugging a cross around someplace.

My wife sleeps well.

But my mother never did. She always slept with one figurative eye and one figurative ear open, just in case one of her kids called out in the night, or something. She'd get up in the middle of the night to fold laundry to get a jump on her day. To her, sleeping always felt somehow selfish, since it didn't directly involve doing something for others. And sleeping in was, for her, out of the question because of how she was raised.

I like that we can see you now 🤓

Maybe there’s an evolutionary reason for it, I don’t know.

Golgotha: I recall a painting of Jesus praying in a garden by that name.
Probably near the crucifixion hill.
