Hoarseness from CPAP?

I have been using a ResMed CPAP for 5 months with nasal pillows or cushions. For the past month, at least, I have found that often my voice is very husky or wispy, and just realized it could be because of the CPAP? Unfortunately, I just had a meeting with my sleep doctor, but didn't mention this as I hadn't realized there might be a relationship! Does anyone know how common this is, and whether a full face mask should help?

If you are breathing through your mouth, it could cause a mild sore throat. This is true even of people who don't sleep with CPAP.

Some of us use sleep tape to keep our lips sealed. Others find that a foam cervical collar keeps the jaw from dropping. In addition, the collar holds the neck in the best position to keep the airway open.

Please give us more details about what you are thinking.

See your MD - there are many reasons for hoarseness and even if someone else had a similar problem due to Cpap, it doesn't mean you have the same thing.

One of the more common reason for hoarseness is acid reflux.

I do realize that there are other possible reasons for hoarseness, and that the CPAP may not be responsible. However, I would like to know if a full face mask would be less likely to contribute to hoarseness. Before I used the CPAP this was never a problem

Are you opening your lips or mouth while using your nasal interface?

FFMs are for people who open their mouths or otherwise allow air to escape through their lips.

If you have a sore throat for a month and can't figure out the cause, it would be best to have an ENT or your GP take a look.
