Horrible red marks
Horrible red marks
I have a bipap and I use a full face mask because I’m a mouth breather, because of a deviated septum, and I get these terrible red marks on my face every morning. I’ve used a Cpap or bipap for 8 years and it’s only been for the past 6 months or so that I’ve been getting these red marks. I’ve tried a different type of mask that covers my mouth and fits right underneath my nose but it was not good for me. I’ve also tried the cloth liners and it’s hard to keep them from leaking without getting the mask really tight. I’ve tried cleaning every day and it does not help. And I’ve tried cleaning with different soaps, just in case. Any ideas on what I need to do?
Re: Horrible red marks
You may have the mask so tight that the marks, while not unusual, may be worse than normal. The mask shouldn't need to be that tight if it's fitted properly. Loosen it or look for another type - there are so many out there. For the marks, wipe with an ice cube in the a.m. as it does help reduce them.

I can't understand this.
What happened in the last six months the didn't happen in the previous 7.5 years?
New medication that may have changed the sensitivity of your skin?
New mask? Or perhaps mask / headgear that are much too old?
New mattress? New bed pillow (or worn out mattress / bed billow?)
A change in your weight that means you have to measure your face again?
Yes, this too.Julie wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 10:21 amYou may have the mask so tight that the marks, while not unusual, may be worse than normal. And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Re: Horrible red marks
A certain amount of leakage is unavoidable, and not significant.
Only SCUBA divers really need to eliminate ALL leaks--for obvious reasons.
A mask liner works by SILENCING the leaks you cannot avoid;
so they do not disturb your sleep.
A really tight mask gets wrinkled--and wrinkles hurt and leak even more.
