Forgot piece - duct tape tips?

Post by supersavernc » Sun Mar 20, 2022 12:49 am

I have a Philips dreamstation and messed up by forgetting a piece while on a 2 week trip abroad. There is a small white piece that fits inside the end of the tube and then clicks in to the mask swivel - that’s what I forgot. Can I somehow use duct tape to fix this? Any tips on whether I should try to tape around the swivel to get out to fit into the hose or just try to tape around it all to make a seal? I slept horribly last night without it :-(
I’m in the UK now but it’s Sunday and I can’t seem to fine this part online or have confidence it would get to me quickly.
You can see the little white piece in the photo. Ignore the arrow.

Hi supersavernc,

I'm in the UK. I live here. :)

I can't give you an opinion on the use of Duct tape – it might close off the safety provision. But I can give you the following: information.

You can contact Philips Respironics UK – and speak to a person – on 0800 130 0845.

Their business hours are Monday thru Friday, 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.

The initial phone handling system may ask if you are a 'clinical' caller – a doctor or a nurse, or someone calling from a hospital. To which you say 'no', you are a member of the public. :) After that, you will get to speak to a person.

Once you have ordered the spare part, you can ask them for a rush delivery.

Please note: FedEx packages get delivered into the UK from outside the UK, but there is no FedEx across the UK.

There are, however, local equivalents – including the national Post Office. They have a service called Special Delivery Guaranteed which delivers next day by 9 am. From memory, it's about £7.

Those white pieces come in different sizes depending on the mask...they come with the mask. The hose side is the same but the mask side is different.

Tape is fine, as long as you keep the vent holes uncovered.
Keep the holes clear, plus an area around them.

Are you going to be in the UK for your entire trip or are you going to be traveling to various destinations throughout Europe?

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I really don’t think I have enough time to have something sent, so I took my chances. My wife was going nuts with the snoring last night, and my throat was torn up this morning without the cpap. I taped around the part where my finger is - around and around to make the fit into the tube slightly snug. Then I went around the outside hoping to avoid the vent holes. I think it will work. If anybody sees something glaringly dangerous or inadvisable let me know. :-) daggum sleep apnea.

Instead of Duct-taping it on, I would wrap some electrical tape around the elbow sleeve, and built it until it is a snug fit into the hose.

I gather he kind of did that:
" I taped around the part where my finger is - around and around
to make the fit into the tube slightly snug . . ."
Not necessarily electrical tape, but it looks like it worked.
Not a pretty lab rat, but a good temporary fix.

LOL, I should have read closer, instead of just looking at the picture.

Not all of us have equal interest in images and text.
I was very nearsighted, so text was my window to the world until I got glasses at 10.
I learned to read at 5, about a month into kindergarten.
I was a weird child.
