Learning to breathe with New mask(air fit 20 leaks)

Post by FreshAir88 » Fri Jan 07, 2022 11:20 pm

Hi everyone, so I have obstructive sleep apnea, and I just got my machine(well I've had it for 2 weeks) and I've been catching hell. First, I hate things on my face, coupled with anxiety, I freak out. So I tried two nasal masks and they didn't work. So now I have a full face mask air fit 20 and I love it...here's the problem, when I turn on my machine, it starts with with on 5..cool I can breathe great with that pressure, once it increases to 8, I'm fine as well...but when it hits 12. OMG it gets very uncomfortable and my mask(f20 full face) leaks like hell.

It's become very discouraging because this mask has been the only one to work for me, but it just keeps leaking.

Now to other aspects of the cpap life, when I have the mask on and I breathe/and or I feel myself going to sleep, it's as if the machines pressure increases as soon as I sleep and it shocks me out of my sleep. I doesn't feel natural.

Look at adjusting your EPR Settings. This will bring down pressure during inhalation.

I have a padacheek liner for my F20 which helps.

@OP - I'm guessing you are a new user. How do you know you need max of 12? Did doc or respiratory tech or sleep center say so? They are not always correct because of the nature of sleep studies -- just one night, strange bed, maybe wires hooked up to you, short night sleep, etc etc. The experts here can advise you on correct pressures if you will download OSCAR and post results here. 12 is not really "high" but it is worth checking this out.
