Newbie having trouble
Newbie having trouble
Only been using for the 3rd night. Major problem with air pocket forming in what I think is my esophagus. Once machine reaches higher settings, I’m waking up having to belch/burp out, excess sir pocket, every other breath. Driving me crazy and keeping me from being deep asleep. Are others having this problem and how do you solve it?

Additional Comments: Not sure of mask maker. It is full face. Start out pressure at 6 and ramps up to 18 after asleep. |

yup, it's called aerophagia. it can be tough. not all of us get it. some lucky dogs never have this problem.
in some, it goes away as your body gets used to it. in others, we may have to adjust our settings.
tell you what. tell us what machine you have, the exact name of the machine, which will be on it's name plate. and let us know what your minimum and maximum pressure settings are.
what you may have to do is adjust those settings so that the aerophagia doesn't disrupt your sleep.
so let us know the above info and we'll see what we can do.
good luck!

Re: Newbie having trouble
We can probably help with that (put 'aerophagia' into the forum search bar) but first what model of which machine do you have, set to which pressure(s), and what mask are yu using? Take any meds?
Please stay in this thread for answers, etc.

Re: Newbie having trouble
I have a Phillips Dreamstation 2 and I have a full face mask because I am a “mouth breather”. I am on only blood pressure meds which I’ve taken for years.

Re: Newbie having trouble
Without seeing Oscar it's hard to just guess - too many variables potentially responsible.
Re: Newbie having trouble
do you know what your min and max pressure are?
as julie suggests, get the free software oscar-
http://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/
we are each different in what makes up our therapy. it would be helpful if folk here could see what events make up your ahi.
then read here-
viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html
yes, it's a lot to dig into. but here we deal in facts and figures in order to give you the help you need.
please come back to this thread with any questions regarding the software if you still have them after going through the above. and in the end, pls post your oscar charts right here, in this thread.
you can do this.
we can help.

Re: Newbie having trouble
You see, if we could see Oscar charts, we'd know if 6 does ramp to 18... it may never do so, or else may sit at 17 all night instead of varying as would be more usual... for your sake, try and get things 'on paper' here so we can see what's what.

Re: Newbie having trouble
Unfortunately OSCAR is not compatible with DreamStation 2 as of now.

Yes, via ApneaBoard.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... nual#THREE
If weren't for current shortage with ResMed machines, I would recommend OP get an AutoSet instead just because of OSCAR (in addition to Resmeds being better overall)

Re: Newbie having trouble
We need to know exact model name or model number to know EXACTLY which machine you are using.
Model number is on the bottom of the blower. Probably the DreamStation 2 Auto CPAP since I don't think the other models are out yet but I could be wrong.
Go here and request the clinical/provider manual for your machine.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
The instructions for how to request the manual via email attachment are about 2/3 down the page.
Read it...in the manual it will explain how to get to the clinical setup menu area....get in there and write down ALL the settings and choices you see and then post them here.
Some examples you should see are
Mode
pressure setting...you might see a minimum and maximum ..you might see only one pressure setting depending on the mode selected.
Ramp....off or on and maybe a time for ramp to be one if you use it along with a pressure setting for starting ramp.
Flex...on or off and if on...at what setting and either AFlex or CFlex.
There are some others but I can't think of them right now.
Just write everything down and come here and tell us.
The air pocket thing...probably aerophagia which is a common complaint and how to deal with it depends a lot on what those settings are.
