Pediatric Masks

Post by UARS_BE_GONE » Sat Jun 26, 2021 3:58 pm

I have sleep apnea, only find relief with CPAP + MAD. Either one alone doesn't help at all. Anyway, my sons also have sleep apnea, ages 7 and 5.

I use nasal pillows and they are the best for me. I've been trying the extra small size for them and it still falls out with very little movement.

Anyone know of good masks for pediatrics? I googled searched and found a couple of options, but was surprised at how little I found.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

Extremely limited choice on pediatric size masks and almost all are nasal cushion type I think.

There's really not any adult masks that might work for someone so small even with small headgear and small nasal pillows...just not small enough.

Now you might look at the Bleep that I use. Stuart did put it on his 8 yr old and it can be done. There's a video somewhere about it.
Probably very finicky though for a youngster to mess with.

Lanolin cream might help a little.

my response isn't about the p10 vs whatever other mask. it's more along the lines of the p10. i was wondering if you had tried lansinoh lanolin cream? it won't harm the mask. the lanolin helps to sooth the skin and it's even slightly tacky so it can help somewhat in keeping the mask in place.

you can find it in the infant care aisle of grocery or drug store. it's used by nursing mothers to sooth sore nipples from breast feeding.
In this instance, NozeSeal might actually be worth a look.

I tried out NozeSeal last night. It worked with my dreamwear nasal pillows. It was a little clumsy to get the pillow through the hole. They really stayed in place during my left to right side tossing/sleeping.

Ignore the fact the whole video demos the tape without headgear. Near the end of the video, they said it can be used with headgear.

They have a 5 strip trial pack for $8.50 including shipping.

I did suggest a DIY version.
But as suggested, it doesn't quite work with P10. More experimentation is needed.

4 more suggestions:

1. Consider adding a flexible extension hose (at least when using a heated hose) to try limiting mask movement on the face.

2. Pugsy showed a good way to route the hose over the top of the head, which again might limit mask movement on the face.

3. If you're using the Airfit P10, the plastic strap guides can be cut shorter to allow better contouring to small faces. Like the 3rd pic in my failed diy, but not so close to the catch.

4. If using the P10, the Airfit N30 strap with its clasp allows a much larger range of adjustment.
