Oscar Reports (Dreamstation 1)
Re: Oscar Reports (Dreamstation 1)
So, new problem here. I'm getting nosebleeds, it started as a little blood in traces when blowing my nose, and right now, I can't stop it for like half an hour...
It scared the s**t out of me, I never had nosebleeds problems ever... I was so upset until I read here that people struggle with nosebleeds often...
It's summer, 100 F right now here every day, and I can't stand the heat, I sleep with AC on, my room is 75-77 F, I guess the air is dry...
I thought it was due to flonase, but I stopped it, it appears it's not flonase fault, but I guess me not using humidifier is a problem... So, I'll connect the tank and crank it to the max now and see what happens

Re: Oscar Reports (Dreamstation 1)
The nasal mucosa is dry from lack of moisture. Use the humidifier and crank up the moisture.
For now...use copious amounts of saline solution to help re-hydrate the mucosa. Don't pick at the inside of your nose. Let the broken blood vessels heal...if you pick it removes the scab and you start all over again. It will take a few days...be patient.
Using air conditioning...yes, it dries the air out and a lot.

If the scratching is due to intense itching,
apply a tiny bit of pain relieving antibiotic ointment.
A topical anesthetic can relief itch as well as pain.
Use only a thin smear, as you want to keep it away from your lungs

Pugsy and chunkyfrog thanks for your advice !
I don't know what would I do without your help, I learn so much from you guys...
What do you guys think about sesame oil nasal solution like Nozoil, could it help keeping the passages moist ?
I never thought I had problem with dry nose, however I did know I had problems with dry mouth because I was mouth breathing my whole life...
I didn't have this problem while I was using Dreamstation + Amara Fullface, could it be that having f30i blowing directly into my nostrils is making my nose even drier ? Is it good idea to try a classic fullface mask, I kinda like F&P Visera though.

Possibly, but the favorite in the forum is Lansinoh lanolin - https://www.target.com/p/lansinoh-lanol ... /-/A-92544

Hi ChicagoGranny,
I understand people use it for skin marks etc, should I apply this into the nostrils ? I should just find similar product here...
Guys is it safe for my nose to use the CPAP tonight or should I wait a night or two to heal, I am not eager to wait though... I read different opinions on the web, some say to stop it for a day or two, some say that pressure actually helps with nosebleeds...
Re: Oscar Reports (Dreamstation 1)
Lansinoh lanolin ointment/cream...safe for babies...nursing mom's use it on their nipples to help prevent chaffing. It won't hurt a thing to put a tiny bit up inside the nostrils. It will also help prevent premature scab removal from the scab being dry. It also promotes healing in general.
Don't put anything with petroleum products as part of the ingredients up inside the nose. While the risk is small...there is a risk from petroleum products of lipid pneumonia. Lanolin is all natural...no man made petroleum products.
Use your cpap tonight but add humidity which will help keep the mucosa moist.
Nasal mucosa is highly vascular which is why the nose bleeds so easily sometimes but also why they heal quickly when we give them a chance.

You could put it on your nipples, but I use it in my nostrils.
If you can't find it easily, Ayr Saline Nasal Gel would be the next choice. Also, NeilMed NasoGel is good. I'm sure there are other good brands of nasal gel. I don't like the idea of the one with sesame seed oil. Gels containing purified lanolin (Lansinoh), or sodium hyaluronate and similar ingredients are good. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=nasal+lubric ... -doa-p_4_9
Re: Oscar Reports (Dreamstation 1)
Thanks, I'll try to find it. I found one product (nasal spray) with sodium hyaluronate.
Thanks Pugsy, then I'll crank the moist up and see what's going on.

Understand, can't find any gel products here. I'll search some more.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 3:05 pmIf the viscosity is thin, it won't keep the passages moist for long. Thicker gels last longer.
There are ointments like solutions, I'm not sure if they are greasy or gelly, according to my language seems they are greasy... One is sodium hydrogen carbonate plus sodium chloride, the other is retinol palmitate, liquid paraffin, light liquid paraffin, lanolin andwhite vaseline. This paraffin part is scaring me a bit, I'm not sure if it's a petroleum product as Pugsy warned about.
There is a third "ectoin" solution, whatever ectoin is... And there is a fourth one: purified water, propylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose, octenidine dihydrochloride.
EDIT: It is, parrafin is petroleum derivate.

I've been using Lansinoh for many years but on the outside of my nares for my nasal pillows.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 11:27 amPossibly, but the favorite in the forum is Lansinoh lanolin - https://www.target.com/p/lansinoh-lanol ... /-/A-92544
If I was going to use something to moisten my nostrils I would use Ayr gel.

Re: Oscar Reports (Dreamstation 1)
So, I was pausing off the CPAP two nigths ago, because I was spitting blood coated stuff all day long, and was using it last night with humidification cranked at 7. Good thing is no bloody nose any more, but downside is I am not able to breathe on my nose with all that warm moist coming to me, so the nose was like totally blocked and swollen of heat... I always liked cold air, winter and breathing in cold air because when it's cold my nose tissue seems to decongest, but apparently it's hurting me as well... The moment I took down the mask, and was like 30 seconds on regular air the congestion pulled back.
I don't know, I was so happy that I'll be able to use my nose, but seems that I have to live with it, all the ENTs I ever saw just say vasomotor rhinitis.
Or maybe 7 is too much for me, I'll try lower.
But anyway, this is the first time I see the machine is trying to push me the max pressure (16) I set, also me being congested some snoring re-appeared... Don't know what to do... Hopefully lowering the moisture a bit (like default 4 or 5) will help me with bleeding nose, but in the same time leave me not congested... We'll see... AHI is ok though...

Re: Oscar Reports (Dreamstation 1)
The increased nasal congestion comes with a decrease in the air flow and the machine will respond with more pressure.
The machine doesn't know that the reduction in air flow (likely your flow limitations increased on the graphs) is in your nose (and it can't fix nasal issues anyway) but it will increase the pressure.
Unfortunately some people find that increased humidity does cause more nasal congestion.
Other people (like me) find that the least little bit of dryness causes that same congestion.
This is something you have to sort out...finding something that doesn't cause congestion but is enough to prevent the dryness.
I suggest starting with middle of the road...4 for humidity and see what happens.

Yes, I will try humidity 4 tonight. Good news is no blood at all.
Here is the graph with flow limitation shown:
