CAs

Post by Snorky » Sun May 30, 2021 8:31 am

I've been using my Resmed Air Sense 10 APAP for about a year now and I'm fine with it. Luckily I can use Aloha nasal pillows with the tube going over my head which I find comfortable and rarely wakes me during the night as it doesn't get in the way.

My AHI has been slowly increasing since I started using APAP although it is still under 5 (last 30 days: 3.55) However, my Apneas have always been predominantly CAs since I started using APAP (the last 30 days: 2.57).

Can anyone give me any advice about how to reduce CAs? Should I consider getting ASV / BIPAP? Has anyone had any success stories in reducing CAs?

Are you sleeping soundly during the night or having a lot of wake ups with considerable time spent awake with mask on?

You would need a central index of over 5 consistently...to even remotely consider needing ASV.

It's normal to have a few centrals anyway. Sleep onset centrals are normal to see and not usually a problem unless you are having a truckload of them and they keep bouncing you out of sleep.

About the only thing you can do with your machine to maybe reduce centrals is reduce or turn off EPR ...if you are using EPR...and that only helps if EPR is the trigger for centrals. I doubt it is in your case because usually if EPR is the trigger people will have a lot more than 2 or 3 per hour average number of centrals.
