I've been happily using a Philips Respironics DreamStation BiPAP AutoSV for about 3 years. I want to get a second device, and I want that device to be the equivalent from ResMed (ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV). So I set up an appointment with a new sleep doctor in the new city I live in. The doctor was happy and willing, they said, to put me on the ResMed instead of the Philips. They gave me a prescription for an ASV device, and apparently just copy-pasted my settings from the DreamStation into the prescription.
So I put through an order at Respshop.com for the new device, and apparently their sleep technicians rejected the prescription, because obviously the ResMed has some totally different fields for the settings, and its algorithm inputs aren't a perfect 1-to-1 correspondence with the Philips. I honestly knew that already and that is part of the reason I wanted the device. But they basically said they want the doctor to spell it out for them, or else just cancel my order.
Fast forward another day, my doctor doesn't want to create the new prescription, and said I should simply go with the Philips, now of course couching it in language implying it's the best for me and will give me optimal therapy. I have a feeling both parties just don't want to go to any effort or liability, however.
Do I need to do a sleep study for someone to get me the device I want? Should I find a different doctor? Should I find a different distributor? Is there some way I can easy button this, because it is beginning to feel like all the inconvenience is on my end, and no one wants my money!

A dentist, nurse practitioner, a veterinarian (maybe
can write for you... have anyone you can think of (your GP?) who'd do it?

julie has offered one very good suggestion. but i'm wondering if you couldn't just try another supplier? this forum is hosted by cpap.com. try putting this past them and see what they say.
oh! and i take it this is out of pocket rather than insurance? forgive me if you said that already. it's just that i've had a bit of wine and might be a bit fuzzy.

Try a different vendor besides respshop.com... have a look at secondwindcpap.com too.brandon.arnold wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:29 pmI've been happily using a Philips Respironics DreamStation BiPAP AutoSV for about 3 years. Easy button . . .
The closest I have ever come is a CGM for my blood sugars.
The hoops I had to jump through! But it was so WORTH it.
Most times there is no easy button--just speed bumps, roadblocks, and suchlike.
You know, to keep the 99% from getting the good stuff.
Rant over, for now.

Re: Having trouble getting the ResMed instead of the Respironics
Just another example among thousands in the forum of how the medical sector does a sorry-ass job of serving sleep apnea patients.
