REM breathing in flow chart?

Post by CaptainHowdy » Thu Mar 25, 2021 7:46 pm

Is it possible to deduce what sleep stage I am in from examining my flow chart? I'm trying to figure out
why my flow charts periodically show wildly oscillating breathing patterns that last from a few minutes to
up to a couple of hours. Just wondering if it is possible to tell what stage of sleep I may be in to explain
some of these charts.

Maybe. To actually measure sleep stage with absoute accuracy one needs advance equiment to measure brain activity.

However, on some people, breathing patterns consistent with REM sleep might be present.

For me, approximately every 90 minutes, for about 30 minutes my Respiration Rate increases, and I often experience increased Flow Limitations, the auto device typically reponds by increasing pressure.

Some nights the pattern is very prominent, others less so.

Attached are two graphs displaying the pattern on my graphs (highlighted), one on My AirSense 10, the other my AirCurve.

Many here do not report this phenomenon in their data, and even if it's present, it's of limited value.

What nice charts, DS!

I can see an elevated respiration rate for my first two REM periods; after that things get murkier. I also see brief wake-ups at the end of these periods of elevated RR. For a while I was using a Dreem 2 headband, which has some primitive EEG capability, and while it always indicated REM during those RR flares, it often indicated additional REM after the brief wake-up. I was never sure what to make of that. (The Dreem could be obviously wrong about some things sometimes.)
