cpap causing sleep deprivation

Post by ekibobrut1 » Tue Jan 26, 2021 11:24 am

been using CPAP for about 18 months. it is uncomfortable to the point where it keeps me awake or repeatedly wakes me when I manage to fall asleep. It's not the settings. The mask itself is uncomfortable. I have always been a "mouth-breather", so I use a full face mask. I am a restless sleeper due to other issues, and every time I move , the mask shifts, and either digs in or starts leaking. in either case, it wakes me up. cpap numbers are good, but is it worth it as I am sleep deprived?

Get with Pugsy on possible meds that might be effecting your sleep. As far as the mask, the F&P makes a great mask. When I adjust mine I know it's tight enough when I pull on the plastic frame and the mask itself doesn't pull away from my face. What you can do in the mean time is sit with it on and get used to it. Also, I found a good bed pillow that doesn't push on the mask to shift it.

I don't know what full face mask you are using, but from my experience the best masks for a restless sleeper are the ones with the forehead support...Mirage Quattro, F&P Simplus, F&P Vitera. The forehead support is for stability.

I have always been a "mouth-breather"
Always?
Or just while sleeping?
Mouth breathing is often a habit caused by apnea--it was for me.
Unless you have a major nasal obstruction, it might be only temporary.
Believe me, there is no way I can be comfortable in a full face mask.
Nasal pillows all the way,
Nasal pillows--hooray!
