Dry mouth and high AHI

Post by RickW » Mon Jan 04, 2021 11:23 am

ResMed s9 with mirage Quattro mask and climate line humidifier.
I’ve turned the humidity all the way up (6) and temperature set to max at 80. Most nights I get rain out but some not. But every night I have dry mouth.
My AHI is still very high (20-35). I tried increasing the pressure to lower the AHI (had some positive effect- readings down to about 17)but that made the dry mouth worse to the point where I couldn’t sleep.
I use the Xylimelts but they don’t seem to do too much.
Any advice on where to go with this?

So what 3 event categories make up your high AHI?

Do you take any medications, even OTC? If so what?

Any other health conditions going on?

Can you breathe through your nose most of the time or do you have chronic nasal congestion issues that pretty much force you to mouth breathe?

In my opinion, THAT is your problem (at least for dry mouth). For some.....more humidity MAY mean more more congestion because you'll have to breathe through your mouth......and THAT is the reason for dry mouth.
After about 2 nights, I turned my HH off and have never looked back......."passover" (cool) humidity keeps my nasal passages open.......all year round.

Doing nasal cleansing before bedtime should help keep your nasal passages open, too.

What's your pressure setting(s)?
