most certainly a desert
The arid part of Washington State has a beauty all its own. And hey, ya gotta admire any state that apparently let some rogue Oompa Loompas name its towns and valleys.
At the risk of sounding like a chauvinistic pig, my wife and I always thought the town name of "Tillicum" was remarkably...funny.

Please don't ban me Pugsy.

Many places in this great country were named by the original inhabitants.
Names often come from nature or events associated with the place,
rather than people of power, who seek immortality.

At some point, I'm likely to be found sleeping half naked in a dumpster, sucking on my thumb and using a pink unicorn fluffy as a pillow.
urm, that's my usual bed time routine.

are you making fun of me?

Tillicum is a Chinook jargon word that was used with various meaning for a century or more. Chinook Jargon was a trade language based on Chinook, the language spoken by the natives who inhabited what is now the Washington and Oregon coast. The language was used mainly in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

...

Tilikum in early Chinook referred to people or tribe or even relatives. With the passage of time the word came to mean also friendly people or even a friend. It also means friendly or agreeable, as in the case of Tillicum Creek.

elip tilikum, the first people
Konaway tilicum, everybody.
Kunsih tilikum mitlite? how many people are there?
Til-i-kum. People.
Cultus tilikum, common or insignificant persons.
Huloima tilikum, strangers.
Nika tilikum, my relations.
Hul-o-i-ma.Other; another; different. Ex. Huloima tillikum, a different tribe or people;
Hy-iu. Much, many, plenty, enough.
Hyiu tillicum, a crowd; many people;

I can hardly argue with her.
I don't care what kind of training you've had. Do not engage. Repeat: DO NOT ENGAGE!!!

No need for the warning. I learned early on that a woman scorned is virtually impervious to any training I've had, and can think up much more diabolical means of revenge than I could ever hope to. There was a point in my marriage where I was attempting to sleep with one eye open. That, of course, failed miserably.

i'm too lazy to scroll back, but i believe i mentioned that in my mind, i had started to think we would be moving in by the first of september.

well, that's not to be. the daughter spoke to the contractor and doesn't think that is going to happen. the covid-19 panic in conjunction with built up demand in the housing market is making it tough to get the trades people in. they are stretched pretty tight. so that's a bummer.

further bummer is that we can't stay here in our cottage. waited too late to renew and they have rented it out. that's too bad, liked it here. but, i managed to find us a condo in downtown bellingham. more space, two baths, two beds, a DISHWASHER!!, washer/dryer. and it's eight bucks a night more expensive than what we are currently paying.

did i mention DISHWASHER? i'm so tired of dishwashing by hand.

so we've booked it for the month of september as we will be in our current digs until aug 31.

things could be worse. and yeah, wish the friggin' house was done. but we aren't sleeping in the streets and that's a good thing.

did i mention DISHWASHER?

Of course there's a dishwasher, it's named "Zonker".

There might be some kinda box under the counter, but who knows if that thing works!?!?! :)

so, thought i'd update. just to show you things haven't progressed much-

Image

yup we got "winders" now, as we said in indiana. roof too. insulation, which has yet to be inspected. drywall is sitting, waiting to be hung.electricity from the utility to the house.

i'm told that next week, things start to happen.

inspection of the wiring, then insulation put back into place.

electrician continues with wiring. apparently, we have the slowest %#@*ing electrician in the pacific northwest.

drywall goes up.

painting begins.

can't remember what goes after that.

i really don't think we will be moving in oct 1st.

we have moved out of our vrbo cottage and now are in downtown bellingham in a condo. this condo is about a half again as large as the cottage, so that's to the good. there are some things to get used to like urban life vs x-urban life.

hedging against the possibility that we won't move in oct 1(and the fact that this condo rents by month only.), i have mad arrangements for another vrbo for the 1st two weeks of october. this will be a small house in woolley. in fact, it was one i wanted last fall and again after christmas. alas, they were booked. but open now.

fun, fun, fun....

Electricians have to move slow so that they don't make the plumbers look bad.

And I believe that the union prefers that you use the terms "careful" and "methodical."
