AirSense™ 10 AutoSet Questions

Post by charlesrshell » Mon Jan 20, 2020 8:02 pm

I presently have a ResMed S9 AutoSet that is almost six years old and I might upgrade to the AirSense 10 AutoSet. Or, I might wait till the next ResMed models to come out. It’s been around five years or so since the 10 models have been out so I think it might be close for the next models to be launched. Haven’t followed the forum too closely the last several years so I have a few questions about the AirSense 10 AutoSet that might be redundant to everyone but would appreciate any help.

How is the WiFi working out?
Do most DMEs use WiFi for compliance or the SD card?
Does the WiFi and SD card work together at the same time?
How is the ResMed myAir sleep apnea app working out?
Is Oscar the most used software that most folks are using for the AirSense 10?
Is there a clinical guide available for the AirSense 10 AutoSet?
Does anyone know what month and year the AutoSense 10 models were released?

There is no WiFi....it's cellular like cell phones.

Here's the manual..it's a combo manual which is all ResMed does in this model line.
https://www.respshop.com/manuals/ResMed ... %20her.pdf

MyAir essentially just shows what is available on the LCD screen of the machine except they will send you little badges and email pats on the back.

The Airsense 10 does not use WiFi, it has a built in cellular modem primarily for compliance purposes. Most of the new Airsense models do not come with an SD card. If an SD card is inserted, it will record data that can be used by your doctor or for you to download into the Oscar Software./ Personally I don't see any reason for waiting for a new model.....When the Airsense 10 replaced the S9, there was hardly any difference except for the Exterior and minor algorithm changes. I used the S9 and switched to the Airsense about 5 months ago...it was a very smooth transition.

I got my S9 in May 2014. I thought the AirSense 10 was just a couple of months later! Just my luck. LOL Thanks again Pugsy. Hope you get better.

Some things to consider about the "latest and greatest" of anything.

Typically they come with some bugs....the AirSense did. It is the life of any new technology.
Current software probably won't work with it.
ResScan from ResMed most likely will be updated rather quickly though since ResMed knows when new models are slated for release and they will keep their own software up to date.
SleepyHead won't work with any new models since it is now dead. There won't be any updates to SleepyHead.
OSCAR probably won't at first but as the new models get out in the main stream the OSCAR development team will get their hands on the data files and get OSCAR updated.....but it will take some time.

It isn't, there's no wifi, it's a cellular modem

I'll just pretend you didn't keep using wifi, wrongly.... "it depends on the DME."

Yes, the cell modem and the SD card are independent of each other.

It's useless crap.

Unless you're a masochist and want to use Resscan.

Of course, it's been posted thousands of times in the forum here.

There's no such thing as an "autosense".
no, I don't remember, I've googled up the press releases before, but they don't matter. They're not an indication of when, or if, Resmed will introduce another model, and no, they don't tell us ahead of time.

There's no substantive treatment difference between the S9 Autoset and the Airsense 10 Autoset.

Unlike between the S8 and S9, where there was a huge technology jump in treatment modality.

So which is the best, Oscar or ResScan? What happened to SleepyHead?

SleepyHead's creator has decided not to do anything more with it for various reasons I won't go into here. I don't want to open up that can of worms again and it isn't needed....so everyone else...please don't go there.

Which is better? Depends on what you like I suppose.
Same data but visually different.
If you want to see some examples of a ResScan report I think this old video has some
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/resscan_tutorial/ Tutorial

and OSCAR is based on SleepyHead so if you use SleepyHead that's what the reports look like.

ResScan is Windows only software though...if you don't have Windows the choice is already made for you.

There's nothing that says you can't use both ResScan and OSCAR though.
The data is the same just visually presented in a different manner.
All comes from the SD card....and either one just reports what the machine gathers.
Neither does any "analyzing". The machine does the analyzing and writes to the SD card and the software just reports what is on the SD card that the machine has put on it.

OK, thanks Pugsy. I used ResScan for a while with my S9. I think this time I will try out Oscar when I get a new machine in a couple of months.

i think using oscar is a good idea. if you get to the point where you want to ask the forum something specific about your therapy, you could upload charts here. while you may be able to do that with rescan (not sure??) , with oscar you'd have a deeper pool of prospective help as most of the experts here use that.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
