Resmed N30I Causing Painful Nose
Hi all, just wanting to know if anyone has had the same problem and if so how did you fix it.
Using the Resmed N30I and it has really started hurting the opening to the nostrils. I have adjusted the mask and it’s not too tight, just right enough to keep it all in place.
This is not a massive issue but just an annoying one.
Cheers.

You are probably just going have to toughen up your nares.
I and a lot of people on here have had the same problem.
What will really help is "Lansinoh" lanolin cream.
I used it when I put on my pillow mask (Resmed p10). Before and after I took it off.
Other people on here have other solutions also, but mostly you just have to toughen them up.
Or change to another mask.

My biggest problem was the septum.
I would put a small piece of micro pore tape on it, nostril to nostril while it callused up.

Are you new to the N30i?
If so, then as jimbud suggests you might just be tender because your skin needs to callus up a bit.
When I first used the P10, I got a couple sore blisters from the mask, used some lanolin and in a few days they cleared up. Been good since.

i agree with the two gents before me. try the lanolin stuff. lansinoh is found in the infant care section of your grocery or drug store. it's used by nursing mothers to alleviate nipples made sore by their infants.
this stuff really, really works. but you only need the tiniest drop on each pillow. a little goes a long way.
good luck!

The N30i cushion has a hard plastic body. The P30i cushion is mostly soft silicone and fits the same frame.
The P30i can be painful too IF overtightened, but if adjusted right, it is very comfortable. It’s also a little quieter than the N30i.

Re: Resmed N30I Causing Painful Nose
I just returned mine (mask insurance). I'm a DreamWear nasal mask user and found the hard plastic of the N30i to be very uncomfortable. It also exhausts a very large amount of air that disturbed my sleep. To me the DreamWear beats it in every way.

Do you put Lanolin on the nostril or on the nasal pillow or both?

What would be the point of putting it on the pillow when you take the mask off?

I am about to try the N30i. I hope it works for me and I don't have the same nostril pain.
Re: Resmed N30I Causing Painful Nose
on the pillow itself. then wipe it off in the morning.
remember, just a very tiny drop and smear it on all over where the nostril touches the pillow.

When I used it I just put a tiny dab on the end of my little finger and just put a small layer around my nostril and inside just a little bit.
There wasn't any need to flush it out as it was such a tiny amount it wasn't even felt.
Amount the size of the end of a Q tip would take care of both nostrils.

Re: Resmed N30I Causing Painful Nose
I too had issues with the N30i being uncomfortable. Like the harder plastic part was pushing against part of my nose. Not the kind of thing that the lanolin treatments would help. The tighter the mask the worse it was. Which was a problem as I didn't get a really good seal with this design and more tension would help that some.
I solved all those issues by switching to the P30i design nose piece. This is a direct replacement. No need to buy any new headgear or strap. Simply plug it in where the N30i nose piece was.

I started with the N30 I and had an irritation in one nostril. As soon as I took the mask off the pain went away. When the P30i pillows became available (they are similar to the P10 pillows) I switched to them and the problem went away. I also get a much better seal.

Re: Resmed N30I Causing Painful Nose
some people use the N30i and have no issues, so I will start with that first. If I have pain or it is just plain uncomfortable, I will ask my DME to give me the p30i instead. When I switched from the standard cushion for the dreamwear nasal & that didn't work out for me, I asked my DME for JUST the nasal pillows. The nasal pillows work better for me for the dreamwear. They gave me a whole new set, headgear & frame. They said that is they could not ship JUST the pillows. So, I am okay with that if it happens. having an extra frame & headgear doesn't hurt. I'll just keep using the original N30i frame & headgear until it wears out. I should be getting a new humidifier & hose in this shipment due after Oct 19th. I will take everybody's recommendations & keep my current hose & water tank until they break & save my new stuff unopened until needed.

Hi all,
Thanks so much for the advice, I appreciate it. The lanolin oil seems like a good option to try as I love the mask but just a little sore in the mornings.
I will keep you up to date on how it goes.
Cheers TK
