Better sleep now sore

Post by greenham » Fri Feb 23, 2007 6:33 pm

I swear, who knew sleeping would be so difficult.

After being diagnosed w/ sever OSA. I had the typical 3 - 4 week adaptation period with my new Auto PAP.

Now that I am sleeping well and only avg about 2 OSA events per night I am getting sore. I have a sleep number bed and have had it for 1 1/2 years. Now I find I sleep so soundly that I apparently don't move at all during sleep. This is causing me to have back and shoulder pain. Within 5 min of getting up, my back is fine. Has anyone else dealing with new aches and pains since being treated?

I only manage about 6 hours before I get so sore that I have to get up and move around to get everything loosened up. It also seems that I only require about 6-7 hours of sleep now.

Greenham,

I have had exactly the same thing. One night I slept so soundly and woke up in the morning, barely being able to move (yet I felt more well rested than I have in many years). I don't think I moved all night. Since then I have had a slight pinched nerve in my upper back and some numbness going down my arm into my fingers. I called the doctor and they said it was probably due to how soundly I slept--very soundly.

So, yes, I have had the same experience.

sounds to me you have your SC bed pressure too high, I only use mine between 45-50.

If your back pain is lower or lumbar in the L4, L5 or S1 region, get a LifeGear Inversion table and set it to about 15 degrees (read the instructions). Use a heat pad on your back for 15 minutes prior in bed, then get on that inversion table in the morning for at least 10 minutes. 2-3 days of that along with some Advil for fighting inflammation you'll say what back pain.

The upper cervical pain between the shoulders can sometimes be from stress, the Advil should also help with that. The key to fighting that inflammation is to take the advil for 5-7 days. I wouldn't take it every 4hrs, I'd only take it in the morning and in the evening. Personally, I prefer Aleve over Advil.

My guess is that this is fairly common. I also used to move a lot while sleeping, probably to try to find a position where I didn't stop breathing as often. Many fewer movements now. My back is frequently stiff in the morning - might be partially due to the 'degenerative changes' as seen in x-rays (read, vertebral arthritis.)

I have the same situation and set my sleep number bed to 45 which helped. Also got the Shapeable pillow from Target and that reduced the upper back pain for me. There is still some tiredness in the morning, but it passes and I feel better during the day now.

That was one of the first things I noticed - I don't toss and turn alot anymore. So I'm stiff in the mornings. I started taking ibupropen before bed. It's one of my bedtime routines now, and it helps alot. On the nights that I forget to do it, I wake up much more stiff than when I remember.

My pressure must not be right, I toss and turn more now. And wake up more too. I think I had totally used up all of my adrenal hormones though, I slept like a dead person before. Now that I am healing I toss and turn. Ironic. Good luck with the back pain, I had good luck with back exercises when I had back pain a few years ago. Lots of core strengthening.
