Airsense 10 CPAP Vs Dreamstation APAP

Post by alpha752 » Mon Jul 15, 2019 9:42 pm

I have an Airsense 10 fixed cpap. I would like to move to an APAP but the airsense 10 Apap is a couple hundred more than the dreamstation, putting it out of my price range. I have read through threads and the dreamstation has a very low opinion over the resmed.

Would the benefits of apap over cpap out weigh the negatives of the dreamstation? Basically is it worth getting the dreamstation for the apap or staying on my fixed airsense?

The Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP (apap) isn't a crap machine. Lots of happy satisfied users here.

Can you please clarify exactly which machine you have??

AirSense 10 CPAP
or
AirSense 10 Elite

If you have the AirSense 10 CPAP it isn't even a full data fixed pressure machine and the DreamStation APAP would definitely be a step up because it is full data in addition to having cpap mode and auto/apap mode.
If that's all you can afford...it will serve you well.

What pressure settings are you using?

I have a cpap not an elite so the data would be an added bonus. My pressure is high at 14, so I don’t know if apap would be beneficial or not. My ahi is usually under 2, but I don’t feel rested which is why I think I a more advanced machine might help.

Where are you looking to purchase the new machine from?

The DreamStation APAP would be immensely better overall than the AirSense 10 CPAP brick.
So if that is all you can afford...it's not a crap machine.
There are a few minor advantages with the ResMed APAP over the Respironics APAP but if money its really tight...the DreamStation will get the job done.
I have used both brands and while I do prefer the ResMed....I still own a Respironics for a back up machine and in fact used Respironics for my first 3 years of therapy. I wouldn't own one if it was a crap machine.

You can also consider buying a used machine:
  • Member LSAT sells them here occasionally
  • The come up occasionally on buy/sell sites
  • Second Wind CPAP sella gently used machines

I’m going to purchase through cpap.com because they have a prescription on file. I can’t go through a DME or insurance becuase I havent seen sleep doc since 2014, and he will make me come in and get another study done before writing a new script. I dont want to go through all that headache and months waiting for appointments.

I cant get a used one, because I need to use my HSA money, so I am pretty limited in my options. Cpap.com has everything on file.
