Need help choosing right machine for OSA: Resmed Vauto vs ASV.

Post by Strasden » Sun Jul 07, 2019 9:06 pm

Hi!
I want to purchase a new PAP machine for my father, he currently uses ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet and I was thinking to get something better for him.
He has an Obstructive sleep apnea.
I was looking at resmed Aircurve series and wanted to get the best machine for his type of apnea.
There are two models that I'm choosing between - VAuto and ASV. Which one of them will be better? Does it make sense to get ASV if he doesn't have central apnea, or it is the most advanced machine for any kind of apnea? Thank you.

Get the Air Curve 10 VAUTO. The ASV is used to treat central and complex apnea. Most people find it difficult to adjust to the ASV machines if they don't have central apnea. The VAUTO will work just fine for obstructive apnea, and offers more options than the Air Sense 10 auto.

No, doesn't make sense. You would be paying a lot of money for features that would never be used.

What are his pressure settings? Is he having any problems? How does he feel during the day? Energetic? Excessively sleepy? How old is he? Does he have other health problems? Take any medications?

He has one of the best machines made for OSA. Depending on your answers to the questions, the best thing you might do for him is to download OSCAR (Sleepyhead) software and let members take a look at his therapy efficacy. (Links in my signature.)

The Airsense 10 Autoset that he has is the top of the line for OSA....What kind of problems is he having that makes you think he needs a different machine?

Why? In what way is the autoset deficient?

The ASV is designed for people that have central apnea, if you're dad doesn't have csa, then the expense of the asv is unwarranted.

The VAuto is more customizable than the autoset, and whether that added expense is worth it comes down to .... Why?
