Headgear and infected hair folical
Okay I have a question and I know it has been asked once before but I need a serious answer. I have a zit on the back of my neck at the base of my skull where the headgear rests. I popped the set and all sorts of puss and crap came out of it I became sore and I worked it until I got the hair follicle out and it stopped hurting for a while. It never completely went away and now it's completely infected and I'm having trouble wearing my E-pap mask and headgear. Is there anything that I can use on the headgear if it would help heal this area keep me from getting these again?

Re: Headgear and infected hair folical
I get ingrown hairs now and then caused by the rubbing of my head gear on the back of my neck... usualy only after I get a haircut and the hair on the back of my neck has been buzzed short.
Have some one who can help clean out any infection, put a bit of antibacterial cream on the affected area and try a bandaid or something like that till the spot has had a chance to heal. As for the head gear cutting into the back of your head/neck you could try wrapping that spot with a soft bandana or bit of cloth to make the strap in that area a bit wider to distribute pressure more evenly where it rests on the back of your head.
If you notice the tissue surrounding the affected are has become hot, red, or painful to touch. You should go see a doctor or a dermatologist to make sure it hasn't become something serious. If you had an infection like an ingrown hair that has become contaminated with something more serious like a bacteria and it's getting worse go see a doctor, you may need an antibiotic besides a local cream.
Best of luck,
Gryphon

Get your doctor to give you a referral to a dermatologist.
It sounds like an ingrown hair, needing the expertise of a professional.
Intervention may be needed to halt the infection cycle.
If you can convince them it is interfering with your therapy,
it could be judged to be MEDICALLY NECESSARY, and covered by insurance.
Skin can be touchy--especially on the scalp.

I used to get sores on the back of my head from the strap digging in. I haven't had an issue since I started using the padding that LSAT recommended. I have been using the padding for years it is really good quality.

You could also use a corn patch to raise the surface area around the infected follicle to keep it from having pressure placed right on it and it have time to heal.
